Sometimes LEGO manages to guard the secrets of their upcoming Collectable Minifigures Series figures so closely that we are well and truly shocked by some of the included figures once the set is fully revealed. And sometimes… not so much. LEGO Minifigures Series 14 is one of those times. While we’ve been seeing photos and leaked lists of figures since January, we didn’t know for sure that they were true. But when the LEGO Zombie Skateboarder minifigure went up for order last week, I knew it would only be a few days until we got official confirmation of the Halloween-themed Series 14 Minifigures–and that time has come!
We had to wait a long time for it to happen, but The LEGO Group finally sent out official photos and descriptions of all of the figures that make up the Collectable Minifigures 14 series yesterday, confirming that the monster-themed Halloween set of minifigs is in fact legit.
The Zombie Apocalypse must be underway, because the biggest component of the Series 14 Minifigs wave is Zombies! We get three Zombie figures in this series: a Cheerleader, a Pirate and a Businessman (as well as the aforementioned Zombie Skateboarder coming with the “I Love That Minifigure” book).
In general I’m a bit burned out on cheerleader minifigures, but I have to admit that the Cheerleader Zombie is quite a bit different from past releases! Now this might be a really fun cheerleader squad to build!
My least-favorite figure in this series is the Monster Scientist. His elongated head creeps me out, as does his splotchy coat. I do like his googly-eyed googles and flask with submerged fly inside of it, but otherwise this figure is visually unappealing (at least, to me).
Square Foot Minifigure (AKA Bigfoot)
I don’t think anyone was expecting the name “Squarefoot”, but it definitely has a charm to it! The white Yeti minifigure is one of my all-time favorites, so I’m excited to get this palette-swapped version of the Yeti.
I wonder if Square Foot is going to take photos of himself with that camera to prove his existence…?
Utilizing the stubby children legs, the pint-sized Gargoyle figure is downright adorable. I really do wish that there was some printed “stone” texture on his legs, though–it looks weird having only his head, arms and torso printed.
Okay, so, hands-down the most bizarre figure in this series is definitely the Monster Rocker. Frankenstein’s Monster as a Rock Star…? Oooookay. I don’t really ‘get’ this particular inclusion, but if nothing else, it’s certainly unique!
I like to think that this a figure of a guy wearing a plant costume and not a guy being eaten by a gigantic plant monster (that said, it certainly does appear to be the latter). Your mileage may vary.
If only LEGO had made this figure blue and given him a flat-topped hat, we could have had a Boo Berry minifig! Aw well!
The fact that this poor Spectre is chained freaks me out, but I do love the comical facial expression and clear stand for the figure to “float” on.
*SHUDDER* I thought this was a lady vampire form the leaked photos that popped up in January, but it’s apparently a “Spidery Lady”–complete with terrifying red spider accessory that really gives me the heebie-jeebies! The webbed cape that this figure comes with is fun–as is her fully-printed upper and lower body–but man, this is not a figure for the arachnophobic among us (like me!).
At a glance this might look like an anthropomorphic tiger woman, but this “Tiger Lady” is actually just a woman sporting a reasonably convincing costume. The yellow-toned head and hands (plus the belt) give it away that this is just a lady who really loves dressing up for Halloween!
Meanwhile, the Banshee figure gives us something incredibly rare in the LEGO world: a partially clear minifigure! With translucent hair and a clear “lower body” (of a sort), the Banshee minifig is one of the most unique-looking minifigures ever released! I love this figure!!
LEGO Minifigures Series 14 71010 is scheduled to be officially released on September 1st, 2015 online and in stores. That said, we’ve all become accustomed to the figures leaking out a week or two early to Toys R Us and other retailers who don’t mind breaking street dates, so it’s not too far of a stretch to assume that this series will hit shelves a bit early in some areas as well. I’ll post an update as soon as the figure sightings of Minifigs Series 14 start to pop up.
Now that all of this monstrous series has been released, how do you feel about Minifigures Series #14, brick fans? Is this entire series an absolute must-have for you, or will you be picking and choosing (or skipping this series in its entirety)?
Cool! I really want that Banshee minifig
