Last month we posted a rumored list of 2014 LEGO Simpsons sets, which I pretty much said was a load of hooey (not in those words). It’s looking more and more likely that I was correct on that front, as Nerdly has published confirmation from a special Fox/LEGO event that the 2014 LEGO Minifigures Series 13 sets will be focused on LEGO Simpsons minifigures, and there will only be one buildable LEGO Simpsons House set to begin the theme…
Uhh, sorry Nerdly, but it can’t be “despite” our listing if we said that list was a fake. You’re actually confirming our article, not contradicting it. (Also, April 2014 is the second quarter of 2014, so based on your own article there will presumably not be any Simpsons LEGO sets in 2014 Q1, but that’s neither here nor there.)
Anyway, on to the news: the fact that the April 2014/May 2014 shipping LEGO Minifigures Series 13 will be Simpsons themed is not a total shocker, but not an entirely welcome surprise either. Part of the appeal of the LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series is the ability to army-build and get new molded pieces to use with your other LEGO sets. Unfortunately, I can’t think of a single Simpsons character I would want to army-build as minifigures (can you?). Additionally, a lot of the new parts and molds in the LEGO Minifigures Series 13 Simpsons blind bags are going to be so specialized that they won’t be all that useful with other sets.
As far as the LEGO Simpsons House being the first (and possibly only) buildable set released as part of the Simpsons LEGO theme–I’m not really surprised (especially since that’s exactly what I hypothesized in my prior article on the topic). The Simpsons House LEGO set is the set that makes the most sense for the theme and is also the most iconic. The real question is how large and expensive this set will be, as an Arkham Asylum-sized LEGO Simpsons house would be a ton of fun and a really worthwhile (albeit expensive) purchase.
How do you feel about LEGO Minifigures Series 13 being composed of The Simpsons minifigures, LEGO fans? Will you be passing on a set of licensed CMFs, or do you think this could be a positive development for the LEGO Collectable Minifigures series?
I’d like a Bartman to go with the Superhero sets. The only possible army builder I can think of is Kang and Kodos aliens from the Tree House of Horror episodes.
If they’re going to do stupid Simpsons characters for minifigures, which I say again, is mainly focused at adults, I want a minifigures line with completely DC heroes
I hope if they continue to do licensed blind bags they do DC and Marvel Heroes and Star Wars. Those themes will sell.
i cant wait for this to come out to the states!!! i will buy the SIMPSONS house and blind bags simpsons sets!!! THANK YOU lego you answer my question!!! we finally got a Non LEGO theme blndbags for once!!! hope they do it for other sets n the future!!
Hopefully this means there’s a possibility of cool licensed blind bag series.
Specifically Marvel.
i want a marvel and dc licensed hero cmf series, re-releasing the comicon-raritys with slightly different prints. also figures that havent been made into sets, such as clayface, mad hatter, zsasz , obscure batman (kryptonight, beyond, azreal), obscure superman. marvel maybe orbital ironman, 2099 iron man, 2099 spiderman, carnage, gambit, daredevil, punisher, ironspider, classic wolverine, cyclops
simpsons?? blah. too bad the motu lego werent real instead of the crapsons
The Simpsons? How disappointing. If the Lego team starts moving to such themes then obviously they are running out of ideas. But of all the themes, why the Simpsons? I admit that Marvel and DC comic characters would be better. I think I will be skipping Series 13. The Simpsons will make the rest of my collection look rather cheesy. I think a fairy tale character based theme would be great. The old fairy tales.
Well, I hope that series 12 turns out good.
I think it’s Great that they would come out with the Simpsons for series 13. When a new series comes out, my kids and I go through the list and pick out which figures they (and I) want. This is fun and great for bonding with my kids. But, having a series that is just The Simpsons gives us a good oportunity to take a break from this routine and bond in some other way. It will also give me a chance to save some money. We will not be buying any Simpsons minifigures.
I would like a Snake figure. Maybe Fat Tony.
