When you own several thousands action figures of various sizes like I do, shelf space is a luxury. So there’s no way that I can purchase even close to the number of LEGO sets and minifigures I want to each year. That said, I do run a LEGO site, so it’d be futile for me to try to resist the charm and allure of pulling blind bags from every LEGO Minifigures series. Thus, I dropped by the LEGO Store on launch day and picked up a handful of the LEGO Minifigures Series 10 71001 blind bags. With no LEGO Minifigures Series 10 codes available, I had to hope for the best. The verdict? This Minifigures series is so good, I’m going to need more shelves…
I bought eight 71001 LEGO Minifigures blind bags, but I was really unlucky this time and drew three duplicates. This is one of the times when I rue that the LEGO Minifigures Series 10 dot codes out there aren’t reliable.
Anyway, the five unique LEGO minifigures that I drew were the Warrior Woman, Bumblebee Girl, Grandpa, Revolutionary Soldier, and Skydiver. I have to say, I find the metallic gold blind bags for LEGO 71001 to be by far the most attractive and good-looking packaging for any LEGO Minifigures series yet!
First up for review is the LEGO Warrior Woman minifigure–or, as I like to think of her, the LEGO Xena Warrior Princess minifigure.
This is probably my favorite figure in the entirety of LEGO Minifigures Series 10, so I’m thrilled that I pulled her (twice, actually). The Warrior Woman minifigure looks more tough and strong that any female LEGO minifigure I’ve ever seen, and I love it!
The decorated shield and spear that the LEGO Warrior Woman comes with are both perfect complements to the figure, and make this among my favorite LEGO Minifigures series figures ever.
The LEGO Minifigures Series 10 Warrior Woman minifigure looks right at home battling alongside LEGO Lord of the Rings minifigures like Boromir, and I really thing this LEGO Xena wannabe could take out the Warcraft Lich King without much fuss!
I thought that the LEGO Minifigures in costumes had run their course, and I particularly thought the LEGO Bumblebee Girl was dopey. That is until I pulled her and had the opportunity to really appreciate the level of detail LEGO put into her. From the honey pot (with bee imprinted on it!) to the clear insect wings to her antennae headpiece, the Bumblebee Girl minifigure is much more charming than you might think.
I’m still getting a little tired of LEGO minifigure people wearing animal costumes, but I have to admit–I get a kick out of the LEGO Minifigures Series 10 Bumblebee Girl minifigure. You won me over, LEGO!
The LEGO Minifigures Series 10 Revolutionary Soldier minifigure turns out to be my least-favorite of the figures I pulled. I know army-builders will love accumulating lots of Revolutionary Soldier minifigures, but I just don’t get a thrill out of historical army-figures. I do rather love his retro-style hairdo, however. George Washington minifigure, anyone?
I’m not into skydiving. In fact, the thought of it utterly terrifies me. Maybe that’s why I feel like I can relate to the LEGO Minifigures Series 10 Skydiver so well! This poor minifigure looks like he’s about to wet himself, and I love it.
The bright colors of the LEGO Skydiver minifigure really enable him to stand out from the pack, and a new favorite pastime of mine is sticking the Skydiver on high places so I can watch him squirm. I know–I’m sick.
Grandpa was probably the figure I dreaded pulling the most, as I had no idea what I’d do with an old man minifigure. As it turns out, I’m having a blast with him! From having him atop race cars to hanging out with fellow old-timers (the Warcraft Mega Bloks Ghouls figures), the LEGO Minifigures Series 10 Grandpa figure is tons of fun. His balding old man hair-piece, “Old Times” newspaper, and coffee mug are terrific accessories too. I can’t believe I like this minifigure as much as I do!
Overall: I am absolutely delighted with this LEGO Minifigures series 10. I genuinely thought I might be able to skip out on this series without regrets, but the color and design of these figures are just spectacular. And I want them all now. All of the LEGO Minifigures Series 10 figures are available for the price of a blind bag or less online (besides Mr. Gold, obviously), so I’m going to order the rest of the series online to avoid getting more duplicates. If you’re on the fence about the 71001 LEGO Series 10 Minifigures, I urge you to give in and give this set a try–this is the most excited I’ve been about the line since LEGO Minifigures Series 1 way back in 2010. Outstanding stuff.
