If you’re like me, you simply can’t afford to keep up with all of the cool and amazing sets that LEGO releases every year. Try as I might (and believe me–I try), I just can’t afford to buy anywhere close to every LEGO set that I really want. One such set is the LEGO Volkswagen T1 Camper Van 10220, which has just never quite managed to make it to the top of my “to-buy” list, despite its phenomenal design.

But LEGO is coming to the rescue of those like me who haven’t been able to build the full-size LEGO Volkswagen Camper, as next month a free exclusive LEGO Mini Volkswagen Camper Van 40079 polybag will be given out as a free promo at the LEGO Store!

One set that I’ve had my eye on since it came out in 2011 is the LEGO Creator Volkswagen T1 Camper Van 10220. Based on the classic 1962 model, the LEGO Volkswagen Camper Van is a sheer thing of beauty. As gorgeous as the vehicle is, however, I’ve never squeezed its hefty $119.99 price tag into my budget. Of course, the set has now been available for close to a full two years, so it’s likely to be retiring in the near future (I’d suggest picking one up while it’s still available for MSRP if you want one).

Thus, I am absolutely thrilled that LEGO has seen fit to grace us with a miniature LEGO Volkswaven T1 Camper Van polybag in September 2013–and best of all, it’s free! It’s true you need to purchase sets from the LEGO Store to “earn” the miniature Volkswagen Van, but with the Sydney Opera House and Ewok Village set to be released in September, it’s going to be pretty easy to find something to purchase in order to get the “free’ LEGO 40079 polybag promo.

We’ve had a mixture of excellent and “ehn” LEGO Store promo sets during 2013, but I consider the Volkswagen Camper Van to be the very cream of the crop, perhaps only rivaled by the immensely fun LEGO Hot Dog Cart set that was given out in July 2013. While the mini LEGO Volkswagen 1962 Camper Van obviously won’t have nearly the level of intricacy and detail as the full-size model, it still looks pretty great! Pair this with the popular mass release of the LEGO Star Wars Clone Trooper Lieutenant minifigure promo and September 2013 is looking to be one of the most exciting months in history for free LEGO polybag promos!

The 40079 LEGO Volkswagen T1 Camper Van polybag promo set will be given away free with purchases of $75 and up from official LEGO Stores and the online LEGO Store starting September 1st, 2013.
