Of the four LEGO Marvel Summer 2014 sets that are on the way, only one of those sets isn’t based on the Guardians of the Galaxy movie hitting theaters this August. I tend to prefer LEGO Marvel comic-based sets to Marvel movie-based sets, so ordinarily I’d be pretty disappointed to just get a sole comics-based LEGO Marvel set to close out 2014. But when the one LEGO Marvel Summer 2014 set is X-Men focused, it’s tough to be disappointed! Coming in August 2014–the LEGO X-Men vs. The Sentinel 76022 set!
When word leaked out that we were getting an X-Men LEGO Sentinel set, my hopes soared. When we saw the actual LEGO Sentinel robot image leaked for the first time, my dreams were shattered. Now that we have the official, hi-res photos of the Sentinel from LEGO… well, I’m still not thrilled with the final product that we’re getting, but I don’t despise the design either.
On the bright side, it appears that the Sentinel LEGO figure will have pretty substantial articulation and poseability, features that I’m exceedingly happy about. In addition, this is one LEGO set where I won’t complain about plenty of firing missiles as action features, as the LEGO Sentinel is essentially a walking tank. That said, I’m still rolling my eyes at the weird proportions on this LEGO X-Men Sentinel figure, which just plain look wrong.
Thankfully, everything else included in this LEGO 76022 X-Men vs. The Sentinel set is exceptionally well-done. The LEGO X-Men Blackbird jet looks tremendously sleek and cool, and is genuinely one of the only vehicles in the Marvel universe that I truly wanted to see recreated in LEGO form (now how about the Spider-Buggy, LEGO?).
While I don’t know that I would have opted for second versions of LEGO Wolverine and LEGO Magneto so soon after their debuts, I can’t fault LEGO for their fantastic choices to give us a Cyclops LEGO figure and a Storm LEGO minifigure. Both figures look totally classic and will be much appreciated additions to my LEGO X-Men figures collection. Here’s hoping we get LEGO Beast, Nightcrawler, Gambit, Rogue and more in 2015!
The LEGO Marvel X-Men vs. The Sentinel 76022 set will be released as part of the LEGO Marvel 2014 summer sets wave in June/July 2014. The set will retail for $49.99, which is definitely on the high end for a set containing just 336 pieces (an average of almost 15 cents per piece!). I’m a total X-Men mark, so the set is a must-buy for me regardless of a poor price-per-piece, but your mileage may of course vary.
really wanted the Sentinel “Minifigure” style form the Marvel video game. but somethings just are not meant to be I guess.
