LEGO Labyrinth Marble Maze Set Announced!

It’s been an excruciatingly long wait (as always), but the third 2014 LEGO Ideas Review results have finally been announced! Unfortunately, as usual, those who were hoping for a spectacular new LEGO Ideas set based upon a preexisting licensed theme are bound for disappointment, as those sets (including Minas Tirith and the Flying Dutchman) are all immediately disqualified. But there is one set that did make the cut in this review, and it’s definitely a unique one: it’s the LEGO Ideas #13 LEGO Labyrinth Marble Maze set!

LEGO Ideas Third 2014 Sets Review Results

Every time I see an Ideas Set Submission from a preexisting licensed theme such as “Pirates of the Caribbean” or “Lord of the Rings” or “Marvel” get 10,000 votes and go up for review, I seriously cringe inside, because I know that fans are just setting themselves up for another future disappointment. And with the latest LEGO Ideas Review Results, history has repeated itself once again.

The much-requested Lord of the Rings Minas Tirith set, Pirates of the Caribbean Flying Dutchman Set, Marvel Avengers Helicarrier set and Jurassic Park set have all been shot down. This isn’t a big surprise, as LEGO has unilaterally shot down every single submission trying to add to an existing licensed theme, but I know it’s always a disappointment to folks nonetheless.

I never had much hope for the Natural History Museum Creator Expert or Goonies sets, as there’s no precedent for Ideas approving such large designs, but I am a bit surprised to see the piano denied. I sort of felt like that would be right up the LEGO Ideas alley.

LEGO F7A Hornet Sets IdeasThe F7A Hornet set is still under consideration, apparently, which leads me to believe that the aerial vehicle will probably see production someday. Since this set is non-licensed, I suspected that it might have a good chance of being approved, and that hope is still alive. We can always use more non-licensed space ship sets, so I’m hoping that the final word on this submission ends up being positive when we hear about the F7A Hornet again in the fall.

LEGO Labyrinth Marble Maze Set PrototypeBut one submission that was not declined turned out to be the LEGO Labyrinth Marble Maze designed by JKBrickworks! This is such a quirky and fun idea that I was 90% certain that it was going to be approved–and it has been!

In essence, the Labyrinth Marble Maze LEGO set is a customizable “board game” (of a sort), based off of traditional marble games like this (which I’m terrible at, I’d like to note). While none of the specific details regarding the set are available yet (photos, release date, price, etc.), the LEGO Marble Maze set is already in production, so we should hopefully see it before the end of 2015.

This is definitely one of the more unique sets of the year, and one that I’m absolutely planning on picking up (for novelty’s sake if nothing else).

LEGO Maze Marble Labyrinth Fan Submission SetHow do you feel about the latest LEGO Ideas Review results, brick fans? Are you disappointed with the selections that the board made in this latest submissions review, or do you think that the right choice was made with the LEGO Ideas Set #13 Labyrinth Marble Maze?

  1. I am happy that the piano did not make it hoenstly i can build that from just looking on it but the marble set looks great 🙂 and the howitzer that is my favorite the other sets are too big and the helicarier well i was 99% sure it will fail .. feel a bit sad for the goonies and jurassic park .. the sets were amazing!

  2. I’m disappointed that the piano didn’t get approved. It would have made a great $10-$15 set. I figure that it probably failed in one of the durability tests, since it’s a non-licensed set with a simple design.

  3. I just wish that they had made that hornet ship thing. I honestly think that the labyrinth maze is cool, but it kinda sucks.

    • They’ll probably make the Hornet ship. Wait until the fall review–I’m reasonably certain they’ll announce it then.

  4. If I recall correctly, the Jurassic Park set predated the revived Jurassic Park theme.
