LEGO Jurassic World T-Rex Tracker 75818 Photos Preview!

One of the most hyped new themes being released this year that made its official debut at the New York Toy Fair 2015 last month was LEGO Jurassic World. I haven’t had a chance to delve into discussing those sets until now, but what better place than with the (former?) king of the dinosaurs? Coming to stores this spring: it’s the LEGO Jurassic World T-Rex Tracker 75918 set!

LEGO Jurassic World T. Rex Tracker 75918 Set Box 2015 Toy FairI’m a bit of a weirdo in that I don’t like T-Rexes. Never have, never will. It’s probably from having grown up watching The Land Before Time and Dinosaucers countless times, but I’ll always see Tyrranosaurus Rex as being a villain, and I hate “him” for it.

But there’s no question that T-Rex is the most legendary and popular dinosaur out there, so out of respect to the Tyrant King, I’ll be discussing his Summer 2015 LEGO set first!

LEGO Jurassic World T-Rex Figure Close-Up New York Toy Fair 2015

There are two main components to this LEGO Jurassic World movie set. First up is the titular dinosaur itself–the LEGO T-Rex figure. We actually already saw this T-Rex figure in both leaked photos and the official teaser poster for the Jurassic World theme, so there’s no surprises here.

T. Rex is painted in multiple shades of brown with piercing yellow eyes, making him a suitably terrifying sight. The T-Rex looks to have seven points of articulation: legs, arms, tail, head and jaw. He won’t be doing any ninja kicks, but he’ll at least be able to take on all the standard T-Rex poses.

2015 Toy Fair LEGO Jurassic Park Armored Vehicle 75918The other main portion of this set is a large, blue and grey armored vehicle. It reminds me a bit of the APC from GI Joe (although the Joes certainly never had a dinosaur capture cage on the back of their vehicles).

The armored vehicle has a companion motorcycle and a cool turret mounted on the side, but I can’t help but feel that the restraints are far too flimsy to contain the mighty King of the dinosaurs!

LEGO T-Rex Tracker Minifigures Hoskins Vet ACULEGO 75918 T-Rex Tracker will contain three minifigures, of which two are generic army-builders (of a sort) and the third is a unique, exclusive figure. The two generic minifigures are a Vet and an ACU (Animal Containment Unit). The separate tranquilizer dart that can be attached to the ACU minifigure’s gun is really fun-looking!

75918 LEGO Minifigures Tyrranosaurus Rex Hoskins Vet ACUI know next to nothing about the plot of the Jurassic World movie, but this Vic Hoskins fellow clearly looks evil to me. Will he be the human villain in Jurassic World? I guess we’ll find out in just a few months, but I definitely foresee him being an important character (and a vital minifigure to add to fans’ collections).

LEGO Jurassic Park T-Rex Tracker Set Price Release DateThere is, of course, a downside to this 75918 LEGO Jurassic World T. Rex Tracker set–and that downside is the price. While the set contains only 520 pieces, the retail price is $69.99. That’s over 13 cents per piece–a straight-up terrible value.

Now, to be fair, we’re paying extra for the LEGO T-Rex, which is a large figure composed of very few pieces. Even so, this set is about $18 overpriced. Whether or not the Tyrranosaurus Rex LEGO dinosaur is worth $18 to you or not while be completely up to your own discretion.

LEGO 75918 T-Rex Tracker Figure with Mouth OpenThe Jurassic World LEGO T. Rex Tracker 75918 set is scheduled to be officially released in May 2015–just two months from now! Will we start seeing these sets appear in some stores next month (April 2015)? I sure hope so! I need me some new LEGO dinos!

What are your feelings on the T-Rex Tracker LEGO Jurassic World set, dinosaur fans? Does this set pack enough bang for your seventy bucks, or are you not impressed with the only set containing a LEGO Tyrranosaurus Rex this year?

  1. “It reminds me a bit of the APC from GI Joe (although the Joes certainly never had a dinosaur capture cage on the back of their vehicles).”

Actually that’s not quite true. There’s a Dino Hunter jeep from the last gasp of the original line in 1994 (not exactly a coincidence that it came out around the first JP film) that comes with a dinosaur capture net and T-Rex.
