Today is a big day for LEGO Jurassic Park fans! Not only did the first real LEGO Jurassic World video game gameplay trailer hit the internet today (and it looks good), but it’s also the day I’ll be wrapping up my New York Toy Fair 2015 LEGO Jurassic World coverage with all of my remaining hi-res photos of the final set that was revealed at the event last month. I saved the best, largest and most expensive set for last: the LEGO Jurassic World Indominus Rex Breakout 75919!
But while we’d seen the white Tyrannosaurus Rex LEGO figure long before the actual Toy Fair, we didn’t know anything concrete about the set he’d come with–which turns out to be one of the largest mass-release LEGO sets of 2015, the 75919 Indominus Rex Breakout!
Every big movie tie-in theme tends to get its own super-huge, deluxe playset–and for the Jurassic World theme, that set is the Indominus rex Breakout.
The star of this set is, of course, the Indominus Rex LEGO figure itself! This dinosaur utilizes the same size body mold as the Tyrannosaurus Rex figure coming out this summer, but with crazy albino white skin, lots of spikes and piercing red eyes! As I’ve got a fatal weakness for arctic-themed sets and figures in general, I immediately fell in love with this dino as a future adversary for my LEGO Arctic minifigures to have to combat!
Of the five Jurassic Park sets coming this year, this is the only one to feature a diorama playset-the other four sets opted for vehicles instead of a buildable environment.
The LEGO 75919 playset is basically a big containment pen for the Indominus Rex, complete with a working crane, a command center up top, a closing gate to try to trap the Indominus Rex toy inside, and another one of those clear bubble vehicles that guests at the Jurassic World Park can ride around in.
A little blue helicopter is also included with the set, although it’s smaller and less detailed than the one in the LEGO Pteranodon Capture set that I previously discussed.
LEGO 75919 includes four minifigures in addition to the large Indominus Rex LEGO dinosaur figure. These are yet another Vet and another ACU, as well as the exclusive minifigures of Henry Wu (who we saw way back in the original Jurassic Park movie!) and Zach (the second kid from the film, whose brother Gray is included in the Dilophosaurus Ambush set I like so much).
The LEGO Jurassic World Indominus Rex Breakout set contains 1,156 pieces at a cost of $129.99. Now, that’s not the best cost-per-piece ratio we’ve ever seen–it works out to be about 11 cents per piece–but it’s much better than the “values” we’ve seen for some of this year’s other large LEGO sets (including the LEGO Spaceport 60080 and its staggering 20 cents per piece price-point).
The Indominus rex Breakout and the rest of the LEGO Jurassic World sets release date is May 2015–which means we’ll be seeing these sets begin to hit stores in just over one month! Between the timeless love that children have for dinosaurs, the tie-in LEGO Jurassic World video game and the hype surrounding the new movie being released in theaters, I have no doubt that this theme is going to be a huge hit and sell like gangbusters.
What do you think of this year’s biggest LEGO Jurassic Park themed set, dinosaur fans? Is this the LEGO Jurassic World centerpiece that you’ve been hoping for for your Jurassic Park diorama, or do you feel like the set isn’t worthy of your future $130?
This whole theme is actually a huge dissapointment for me, don’t get me wrong I love Jurassic park but the fact that most of the sets are just vechicules makes me sad. Also, I hate it that they put all the main characters in differrent sets and than put a laim vet with it, I really hope they don’t do this with the star wars the force awakens sets.
