Yesterday I talked about two of the three LEGO Iron Man 3 sets coming out in March, and today I’m back to finish the job. The LEGO Iron Man Malibu Mansion Attack 76007 summer 2013 set is the largest of the LEGO Iron Man 3 movie sets, the most expensive, and includes the most minifigures. That said, even this LEGO Marvel Superheroes set is a long way from flawless…

LEGO Iron Man 3 2013 Malibu Mansion Attack Set with Pepper Potts MinifigureThe LEGO Malibu Mansion portion of this set looks, well… I think it’s lacking a little something. Like–a mansion. Perhaps Tony Stark is going through a minimalist phase, but even if that’s the case, this “mansion” is a bit, uh… spartan. I understand keeping the piece count down to keep the set moderately low-priced, but LEGO 76007 is just plain silly.

The reason that I’m going to shell out almost forty bucks for this set is, once again, the minifigures. While Diamond Select Toys released a decent Pepper Potts Minimates figure a few years ago, it’s not nearly as cute as this little LEGO Pepper Potts minifigure. As the romance between Pepper and Tony Stark is the aspect of the Iron Man films I like the most (by far), any set giving me exclusive Pepper Potts and Tony Stark minifigures was going to be a super-easy sell.

LEGO Iron Man Malibu Mansion Attack 76007 Summer 2013 SetsYou get three more minifigures with the set as well: the Mandarin, Iron Man Mark XLII, and an Extremis Soldier minifigure. The good news is that the Mandarin and Iron Man minifigures are exactly the same as the ones in the Iron Man vs. The Mandarin: Ultimate Showdown set, so if you buy this set, you can skip that one entirely (unless you really want that doofy attack car). The LEGO Extremis Soldier minifigure looks like a vampire head on a plain body and isn’t especially exciting to me, but to each their own.

Finally, the set includes an attack helicopter in the Mandarin’s favorite colors. I like the black and green color scheme of the helicopter, but the copter itself doesn’t seem like anything special. I think kids and Iron Man movie enthusiasts may like it, but I’m rather lukewarm on it myself.

The LEGO Iron Man 3 Malibu Mansion Attack 76007 set will be out with the rest of the LEGO Iron Man sets on March 15, 2013 with a retail price of $39.99.

  1. Mandarin in this set has sleeves and a cloak and the Iron Man armour in this set is the XLII, while the Ultimate Battle one is the so-called Heartbreaker armour. So if you want those variants then, no, you can’t skip it. But if you only want one representation of the characters though then, yeah, you can =)
