Over the weekend I saw all of the LEGO Speed Champions sets in-person–but those weren’t the only new sets I got lay my eyes upon for the very first time! My local Toys R Us had put out all of the LEGO Avengers Age of Ultron sets (except the LEGO Hulkbuster Smash, which I’ve only seen for order online so far), including a set that wasn’t at the 2015 Toy Fair: LEGO The Hydra Fortress Smash 76041 with Quicksilver and Baron Strucker minifigures!

Considering what a huge deal Marvel movies tend to be, it’s very rare that we get a store exclusive LEGO Marvel set. But what’s expected to be the biggest superhero movie of all-time–Avengers Age of Ultron–is getting its own exclusive set!

Now shipping to Toys R Us stores (and scheduled to arrive in LEGO Stores next week)–it’s the exclusive 76041 LEGO Hydra Fortress Smash set!

76041 LEGO Avengers Age of Ultron Hydra Fortress Smash Box BackPriced at $49.99 for 405 pieces, the LEGO The Hydra Fortress Smash set isn’t the best value around (over 12 cents per piece). I’m also largely unimpressed that the Hydra “Fortress” is basically just one tower and a front gate.

LEGO Avengers 2 Minifigures from The Hydra Fortress Smash Hulk Baron Von StruckerThat said, the set does have its selling points: and the main one being that it will be the only set including a LEGO Quicksilver Minifigure and a Baron Strucker minifigure (in addition to figures of Captain America, Hulk and a Hydra Henchman). These are the first Avengers Age of Ultron figures of Quicksilver and Baron Von Strucker to be released by any company. Go LEGO!

Exclusive LEGO Age of Ultron Hydra Fortress Smash 76041The LEGO 76041 The Hydra Fortress Smash set will be a shared exclusive in the United States between Toys R Us stores and LEGO Stores. While I’ve seen the set at Toys R Us already, the LEGO Store locations are supposed to hold it for a March 1st release.

How do you the like the LEGO Avengers Age of Ultron Hydra Fortress Smash 76041, Marvel fans? Are you itching to buy this set for the exclusive LEGO Quicksilver and Baron Strucker minifigures, or is the $49.99 price-point for a set that primarily consists of a so-so castle tower too rich for your blood?

  1. I’ve said this before, but that set is not worth it for collectors: it’s priced so high for piece count that even two exclusive minifigs won’t save it; versatility/play value is also limited so it’s not even a good buy for children. Quicksilver needs a polybag release!

  4. Also, Hulkbuster Smash is now in stores. I bought it yesterday. Now for the quinjet and the helicarrier and I’m sorted for marvel until ant-man comes out!
