LEGO Dimensions is getting ready to shatter the sales records of all previously-released LEGO video games, as the game has already lined up a ton of blockbuster licenses to include, such as Back to the Future, DC, Portal, Doctor Who, The Simpsons, Jurassic World, Lord of the Rings, Scooby-Doo, Ninjago, Chima and more! But at the Gamescon event in Germany yesterday, a license and sets that are destined to be among the very most popular were announced: LEGO Dimensions Ghostbusters sets, including a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man minifigure and a Slimer minifigure are now up for order!
There are three different Ghostbusters LEGO Dimensions sets that have been announced, but let’s get real here: we can safely assume that a fourth set containing Winston, Egon and Ray minifigures will be released as a Team Pack at some point. There’s just no way that that only Peter Venkman will be available as an in-game character, so let’s bank on seeing the rest of the Ghostbusters team in 2016.
The three announced Ghostbusters sets are as follows:
- 71228 Ghostbusters Level Pack with Peter Venkman Minifigure, Brick-Built Ecto-1 and Brick-Built Ghost Trap
- 71233 Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Minifigure Fun Pack with Brick-Built Terror Dog
- 71242 Slimer Minifigure Fun Pack with Slime Shooter
Now, everyone knows that there are two famous terror dogs from the original Ghostbusters movie, and that means that hardcore fans are definitely going to want to pick up two Stay Puft Fun Pack 71233 sets. You’ll end up with an extra Stay Puft Minifigure, but let’s get real here: who doesn’t have a friend or loved one who would love their extra LEGO Stay Puft Marshmallow Man minifigure?
Meanwhile, I am psyched to see a LEGO Slimer Minifigure! My biggest beef with the Ideas Ghostbusters Ecto-1 set was the lack of presence for the most beloved character in the franchise (or at least he was when I was a kid), so I’m pleased as punch to see the friendly green ghost finally getting his due!
The Brick-Built “Slime Shooter” that comes with Slimer seems rather silly and unnecessary, but this is an all-ages video game and it’s possible it’ll be super-cool to play with the Slime Shooter in-game, so I’ll take it.
Dozens of the LEGO Dimensions toy sets are now available for order, and are sure to be insanely in-demand as we approach the holidays. If there’s any Dimensions sets that you particularly want to have in time to give as gifts (or to play with yourself!) this winter, I’d highly advise locking down pre-orders for the sets that you want now. I’ll post an update here and sent out an alert to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook Page once these Ghostbusters sets go up for sale.
What are your thoughts on the LEGO Dimensions Ghostbusters Expansion sets? Will you be purchasing any (or all!) of these classic characters in toys-to-life video game figure form, or are you saving your dollars for the other eight million Dimensions sets that have already been announced?
Pleased as punch- or pleased as Ecto-Cooler? ;-D
Are these Dimensions things going to be sets which you build and then stick on the bases, or will they be pre-assembled a la the various Lego key chains?
As far as I know you have to assemble them
when is LEGO dimensions going to be sold on shop @ home?
They won’t take pre-orders, so the sets won’t be available for order on Shop at Home until the release date.
