UPDATE 6/1/2014: The LEGO Ghostbusters Ecto-1 21108 set is now available for order online! Go get it if you want it!
ORIGINAL STORY: Sometimes in my decrepit old age (I’ll be the Grim Reaper-watch age of 32 this year) I forget to talk about things. That’s really my only excuse for why, up until now, I completely forgot to discuss what just may be the most anticipated and talked-about set that LEGO debuted at the New York Toy Fair 2014! We’d previously seen the original submitted CUUSOO design, but at the 2014 Toy Fair LEGO officially unveiled the redesigned 21108 LEGO Ghostbusters Minifigures and Ecto-1, as well as revealing the set price and release date!
While we don’t know the official piece count yet for the LEGO ECTO-1 21108, we can reasonably surmise that the vast majority of the pieces included in this set go into the build of the Ecto-1 LEGO car itself. And I have to say–the LEGO ECTO-1 vehicle itself looks fantastic! This Ghostbusters LEGO set seems to have translated into LEGO form far, far better than last year’s poor LEGO Back to the Future Delorean set did.
The back of the LEGO ECTO-1 car (of course) features the iconic “ECTO-1” license plate, and the Ghostbusters logo adorns the exterior of the car in all of the right places. Great work, LEGO!
Of course, probably just as exciting for many folks as the LEGO ECTO-1 itself are the LEGO Ghostbusters minifigures! All four of the Ghostbusters from the movie have been included with this set, including a LEGO Peter Venkman minifigure, a LEGO Winston Zeddemore minifigure, a LEGO Egon Spengler minifigure and a LEGO Ray Stanz minifigure. I think LEGO has captured each of the Ghostbuster characters’ personalities well with the prints on their faces.
From the rear view we can see how cool and detailed the LEGO Proton Packs are on the LEGO Ghostbusters figures. LEGO really did a superb job with this set!
It appears that we’ll also be getting a striped display base with the Ghostbusters logo in the middle for the Ghostbusters LEGO minifigures to stand on. I don’t know if this was really necessary, but I’m happy to have the cute little base nonetheless.
From a close-up view of the figures, you can see that all four LEGO Ghostbusters minifigures seem to share an identical body with the exceptions of their heads and the initials on their torsos. Thanks to the printed initials, your LEGO Ghostbusters will never have to worry about wearing each others’ clothes!
The LEGO Ghostbusters 21108 set will be available in June 2014 for a retail price of $49.99. I’ll post an update when the set is available for order, and you can ‘Like’ Bricks and Bloks on Facebook to have future LEGO news, photos and updates sent right to your Facebook Newsfeed!
Are you satisfied with the final prototype of the LEGO 21108 Ghostbusters ECTO-1 set, LEGO fans? Will this $49.99 set be defending your collection from all manner of ghosts this coming summer?
I’m a Ghostbusters fan, so this is exciting, but my son is the one who is truly excited by this. However, it is pretty clear that Lego designed this set is to be displayed and not played with because we get a display base, but no Slimer mini-figure. I really hope that Lego creates a few sets around this to add playability.
Yes, please lego release the ghostbusters headquarters & slimer!!!
The set has 508 pieces according to the Lego Summer 2014 Catalog
I saw this set in the LEGO shop a few weeks ago
I got it at the Lego store today, They also had the X-men and Guardians of the Galaxy sets too.
My Lego store in Houston is Sold Out for now. Very popular!!
