LEGO Frozen Elsa’s Castle 41062 Set Released in Stores!

Rarely is a LEGO set that isn’t some sort of exclusive and doesn’t have “LEGO Star Wars” in the name end up being one of the absolute most-anticipated LEGO sets of the year, and never has one of those sets contained mini-dolls instead of minifigures. But there’s a first time for everything, and this is it, Frozen fans! What you’ve all been waiting for since the set was announced in the fall: I haven’t found it yet myself, but various online sellers have now received and started selling the LEGO Frozen Elsa’s Castle 41062 set!

LEGO Frozen 41062 Set Released Box

Remember when I correctly forecasted a few months ago that the 41062 LEGO Disney Princess Elsa’s Castle set from Frozen would be hitting stores early, with 2-3 weeks to go until Christmas, and bigger news outlets claimed it wouldn’t arrive in the United States until 2015 (*cough* IGN *cough*)? Yeah–score one for the little guy.

Now then, now that I’ve had my indulgent self-congratulatory moment, let’s talk about the 41062 LEGO Elsa’s Castle set. While the official release date of the LEGO Frozen set isn’t until 1/1/2015 (a factoid that news outlets unfamiliar with LEGO grasped onto as some sort of gospel), LEGO Stores and Toys R Us almost never uphold release dates for sets that don’t belong to new themes and aren’t retailer exclusives of some sort.

Top of Box LEGO 41062 Frozen Elsa's Sparkling Ice CastleThus far, the set has been purchased in North Carolina in the United States and Belgium in Europe. In the U.S. the LEGO Frozen sets were almost certainly purchased from a Toys R Us or a LEGO Store, while in Europe the sets were purchased from a different toy chain.

Unfortunately, as you might expect with a new release hot toy with this much demand coming out weeks before Christmas, prices for the set are already astronomical, as it’s selling for over $100 and more than double the retail price for 41062 LEGO Elsa’s Sparkling Ice Castle.

LEGO really should have moved heaven and earth to try to get this set out an extra month or so early, because the LEGO Disney Princess Elsa’s Sparkling Ice Castle set definitely had the potential to be their #1 best-selling set of the holiday season. As it is, I anticipate a lot of disappointed children this Christmas, as the demand for this set is going to far, far exceed the supply likely to hit stores in the next two weeks.

41062 LEGO Elsa's Sparkling Ice Castle Box BackVarious online sellers are now selling the LEGO 41062 Elsa’s Sparkling Ice Castle set on ebay, which is likely to be one of the only online sources for the set before the holidays. The online LEGO Shop will definitely not be stocking this set until 1/1/2015, so your best chances of tracking down this set as a holiday gifts are from Toys R Us, the physical LEGO Stores and reseller sites like ebay.

Now that it’s officially out in the wild, are you going out on the hunt for a LEGO Frozen set before the holidays, LEGO fans? Are you willing to pay a surplus to get the set early, or are you waiting it out and purchasing this set for retail price?

  1. My kid would (and will) go absolutely NUTS over this, but I’m not going to pay 3x retail just to have it two weeks earlier. For that money, I’d buy two or three sets, so we could build a Mega Castle instead.

I still haven’t picked up a Mars Rover or Research Institute for me yet, because I can’t justify the secondary prices to myself.

Lego really should have released this one in time for the holidays, they would have sold like Cabbage Patch Kids back in the 80s.

  2. So I called 1/2 doz Lego stores this morning and got the official Jan 1 line from each. I mentioned to the clerk at the KoP store I talked to that they were all over eBay and she went into a whole rather defensive line about do not buy them, the sellers actually don’t have them in stock, they won’t be out until 01/01/15, etc. I said that we went through this last year with the Cinderella/Tangled sets and that I was able to call and order them from their store in early December with no issues but I was told that last year they were allowed to sell them early but this year Lego has a strict 01/01/15 rule in place. Makes absolutely no sense to me at all. These should have been on the shelves back in October for Christmas availability. My girls I guess won’t be getting these for Christmas unless I happen to stumble across them at TRU and we won’t be buying them a week after Christmas after they just got a king’s ransom worth of stuff from Santa.

  3. Targets in the Chicagoland area have this item. The item number is 086-14-2474. Some stores have it on the shelf and others have it in back. Ask someone to look up that number for you and check the back, if it’s not on the shelf.

  4. I just bought one today at Target in Albuquerque. It was $39.99. They had at least five on the shelf. Doesn’t look like their website has it yet.
