LEGO Ferris Wheel Release Date, Box & Piece Count!

I never really had much doubt that this year’s 10247 LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel set was going to be a hit, but I had no idea how popular it was going to be until my inbox flooded with readers asking for more details and specifics about the set. And while the Summer 2015 LEGO Ferris Wheel set won’t be officially announced for a few more days, a photo of the box has now surfaced, which gives us a couple more specific details…

LEGO 10247 Ferris Wheel Box Creator Expert Summer 2015 Set

Who doesn’t love carnivals and Ferris wheels, right…? After seeing the response to the reveal of the long-awaited Ferris Wheel construction set, I’m rather sure the answer is “Nobody!”. Over the weekend the first leaked image of the 2015 Ferris Wheel LEGO set showed up, and now the fun has been doubled with our very first look at the set’s box!

The LEGO 10247 Ferris Wheel set has a recommended builder age of 16 and up (wow, that is an “Expert” set!) and will contain a staggering 2,464 pieces. Now, make no mistake, that is a ton of pieces, so I can see where some folks are getting a bit freaked out and worrying that this will be a $250 set or something crazy like that. Luckily–it won’t be.

The various exclusive LEGO Creator Expert sets that get released periodically at the LEGO Store–including the Fairground Mixer and Modular Buildings–tend to be some of the best values that get released each year.

For example, the LEGO Parisian Restaurant 10243 contained 2,469 pieces–even more pieces than the Ferris Wheel–and retailed for an amazingly low $159.99! And with its 2,262 pieces, the Detective’s Office 10246 also cost the same $159.99.

LEGO Ferris Wheel 10247 Set 2015 LEGO CreatorGiven the sheer size and height of the 10247 Ferris Wheel kit–it stands 60 cm (24″!) tall and 36 cm (14″) wide–I wouldn’t be stunned to see it sell for $199.99, but it’s certainly not impossible that the Ferris Wheel will carry the $159.99 price-point that LEGO loves so much. We should find out very soon for sure.

Based on the amount of buzz that’s been generated for this set just by two low-res images, I can already tell that this is an exclusive that is going to get wiped out as soon as the first shipments hit stores. If you don’t want to deal with a back-order, you’ll probably want to order this set ASAP as soon as it goes up for sale.

The Creator Expert Ferris Wheel set will be available for order online for LEGO VIPs on May 13th 2015, and then for the general public on June 1st 2015. The exclusive set will also be sold at official brand LEGO Stores, but not regular chains like Walmart, Target, Toys R Us and so forth. So if you don’t have a LEGO Store near you (you poor, poor soul), you’ll have to order the Ferris Wheel online if you want one.

Now that you’ve seen the box and piece-count, how do you feel about the Summer 2015 LEGO Ferris Wheel set, carny fans? Is this the super-deluxe carnival ride set that you’ve been waiting for, or does some aspect of the new and improved Ferris Wheel set disappoint you?
