LEGO Ferrari F40 10248 Set Revealed + Photos & Video!

As I’ve mentioned a few times in the past, I’m not exactly what you would call “a car guy”. So when LEGO made their huge June 2015 set announcement and press release this week, I was like “A red car. Hunh.” But as it turns out, plenty of readers are excited about this set and asking me about it, so let’s chat about the LEGO Creator Ferrari F40 10248 set coming our way in just a few short weeks!

It’s sad but true: I’m far better-equipped to naturally talk about Disney Princess sets than I am brick-built cars. But I’ve done my research and spent a lot of time analyzing the specs and examining the images of LEGO 10248, so now it’s time to take a look at the “main event” set of July/August 2015!

The Ferrari F40 LEGO Creator Expert set will mark the first time that a brick-built Ferrari F40 is released. Although the actual Ferrari F40 sports car has been out of production since 1992, now car lovers will finally have the chance to build their dream car out of plastic bricks!

10248 LEGO Ferrari F40 Box BackLEGO developed this set in collaboration with the Ferrari corporation itself, so we can feel pretty confident that Ferrari fully approves of the model’s authenticity.

The set will contain a whopping 1,158 pieces for the low, low price of $89.99. That’s under eight cents per piece–a super value for a super sports car!

Overhead View of LEGO 10248 Creator Expert Ferrari F40 Set While we’re getting a lot of neat sports cars in the Speed Champions theme this year, none of those cars can compete size-wise with this Ferrari: it measures 27 cm (10.6″) long by 14 cm (5.5″) wide by 8 cm (3″) tall! That’s way bigger than standard Minifigure scale!

LEGO Creator Ferrari F40 Open Trunk Door HoodTypically, we Americans expect to pop open the hood of a car and find the engine inside. But with fancy cars and foreign cars, that’s often not the case–there’s sometimes a spare tire inside instead.

LEGO Creator F40 Ferrari Setwith Can of Spray Under HoodBut in the case of this Ferrari F40, there’s actually neither under the hood! Designed to be lightweight, the F40 has a can of tire spray under the hood to patch tires–and so does this model! I think this clever detail might be my favorite aspect of this whole set!

Rear Engine Compartment LEGO Ferrari F40 2015 SetAs for the engine, well–it’s in the rear compartment! Once I knew it wasn’t under the front hood, that was my next guess! (And after that, my next guess would have been that the car ran on magic.)

LEGO 10248 Ferrari Set with Wheel Chocks and Brick SeparatorThere’s a lot of debate as to what the two green strips that come with this LEGO 10248 set are. Some folks think that they’re supports for displaying the motor when it’s not inside the Ferrari–but I think it’s more likely that those green pieces are actually wheel chocks. What’s the truth? We may never know!

2015 LEGO Ferrari F40 with Ferrari Logo on Steering WheelIf I have one gripe with the set, it’s that it looks like the Ferrari logo on the steering wheel is a sticker instead of being printed on. In a premium Creator Expert set like this one, I’d much prefer a printed brick steering wheel logo to a decal.

Are the images of this brick-built Ferrari F40 not enough for you? If so, you’re in luck–a designer video for the 10248 Ferrari F40 set has already been posted (and is also right above), so you can see this slick red race car in living motion!

Ferrari F40 LEGO Set Rear Side View July 2015 ReleaseThe LEGO Creator Ferrari F40 10248 set is scheduled to be released exclusively throgh the online LEGO Shop and in physical LEGO Stores on August 1st, 2015. But if you’re a LEGO VIP (and you should be–it’s free!), then you can purchase the set starting on July 15th.

What do you think about the Creator Expert Ferrari F40, brick fans? Is this dream car on your summer wish list, or are you saving your dollars for different brick-built goodies this season?
