After all of the rumors, leaked photos and early release sets, March 2015 has arrived–and with it has come the official release of the first wave of LEGO Elves sets! But of course, once a new series of sets has been released, we LEGO fans can’t help but look ahead. And now we can start looking forward to the LEGO Elves Summer 2015 sets, as the centerpiece LEGO Elves Skyra’s Mysterious Sky Castle 41078 debuted at New York Toy Fair 2015!
Considering that the first sets for the theme hadn’t even been released yet, I really didn’t expect to see further Elves LEGO sets at New York Toy Fair 2015 last month. But I was wrong, because LEGO had two new sets to debut at the show–including the eye-grabbing Skyra’s Mysterious Sky Castle set.
The LEGO Elves Sky Castle will contain a whopping 808 pieces–far more than any other Elves set released thus far–and will retail for just $79.99. That’s a fantastic value, and actually manages to be a tad cheaper than my ideal price-point of 10 cents per piece.
The front of the set is a very nice-looking castle facade (although the interior of the castle isn’t as detailed or attractive as the exterior).
The set is covered in the bright purple and pink bricks that we’ve come to expect from the “girl” themes, although the large amount of tan and brown bricks really balance things out. I could probably do without the hot pink spiral staircase, but otherwise I really dig the aesthetic of the Sky Castle.
The set will include a golden-winged pegasus, as well as a dining table with lots of food on it as accessories. How royal!
It’s worth noting that the Elves LEGO Sky Castle doesn’t just include one or two of the mysterious, magical keys–it includes all four (as well as the keyholes to put them in)! I wonder if this has something to do with a feature we can see on the rear view of the castle…
I took a photo of the back of the set, but I was in a rush at the 2015 Toy Fair and didn’t explore the features of the back very thoroughly. It looks like the back of the set has a spinning function of some sort involving a hexagon and some transparent spokes–could this be the portal that can send Emily back to Earth?!
And speaking of Emily… LEGO 41078 will include three LEGO Elves figures: Emily Rivers, Naida Riverheart and Skyra. While the Naida and Emily minidolls are available with other Elves sets, the LEGO Skyra minidoll is exclusive to the LEGO Skyra’s Mysterious Sky Castle set.
The 41078 LEGO Elves Skyra’s Mysterious Sky Castle set will be released in August 2015 (or more likely, July 2015). I imagine this set will be very popular in fall and winter 2015 as a large holiday present for Elves-loving little girls everywhere.
Do you like this year’s biggest (and perhaps best) Elves set, LEGO fans? Or does the $79.99 Elves Sky Castle fail to touch the proverbial sky in your eyes?
I’m not interested in girl toy’s but this one is pretty cool for it’s size
this looks pretty much like chaos like the rest of the series .. ugly :/
