When the rumors began swirling around that LEGO was planning a new LEGO Elves theme for 2015, visions immediately began to form in my head of legions of LOTR-like LEGO Elf minifigures notching their bows and preparing to do battle with the forces of evil. Now that images of the actual LEGO Elves 2015 sets have appeared, I know this this… isn’t that. In fact, there are no LEGO minifigures at all–just LEGO minidolls. But while the 2015 LEGO Elves theme isn’t what I was expecting, it’s definitely not all bad either…
2015 LEGO Elves Naida’s Spa Secret 41072 Set
41072 LEGO Naida’s Spa Secret set is probably the best example of the rare colored LEGO bricks prevalent in this theme. The beautiful cyan, purple, lavender and magenta bricks present in this set are very, very uncommon to find in your everyday “regular” LEGO sets, and are a solid selling-point for the LEGO Elves theme.
41073 LEGO Elves 2015 Naida’s Epic Adventure Ship Set
I could have been happy going my whole life without ever seeing the word “Epic” in the name of a LEGO set, but the LEGO 41073 Naida’s Epic Adventure Ship set is quite cute despite the name. The boat reminds me–ever so slightly–of a garishly-colored version of the boat that Frodo sails away on at the end of Return of the King, which gives it a dash of sentimental value for me.
41076 LEGO Fairan and the Crystal Hollow LEGO 2015 Elves Set
Other than the LEGO Fairan figure, my favorite part of the LEGO Elves Fairan and the Crystal Hollow 41076 set is that nice assortment of transparent blue and green LEGO bricks. They really do make this LEGO Elves set feel a little bit more magical than the others!
LEGO Elves 2015 Sets Aira’s Creative Workshop 41071
Finally, we’ve got the “impulse buy” set of the group: the 41071 LEGO Aira’s Creative Workshop set. At first I thought the LEGO Aira minifigure had wings like Kid Icarus, but then I realized they were attached to a device and was disappointed. This set is a little “ehn” for my tastes, as Aira’s “Creative Workshop” seems to consist of some paint, a pair of scissors, a bird and a ruler as big as Aira herself. Weird. Since the LEGO Aira minidoll also comes with LEGO 41073, this set looks like a total pass to me.
The last two LEGO Elves sets for Winter 2015 are yet to be revealed: LEGO 41074 Azari and the Magical Bakery and LEGO 41075 The Elves’ Treetop Hideaway. I’ll post an update here and to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook Page once images of those two sets appear.
What are your opinions on the LEGO Elves theme, LEGO fans? Are you happy to see the LEGO Minidolls range expanding, or were you hoping for something more Tolkien-esque?
I’d rather have minifigs, and Tokien-esque would’ve been awesome, but.. purple trees ! *girlish squeal*
I could pass on the spa and the creative workshop, but even with the colors, I’m loving the ship and the other sets!
I will probably pass, but the heads will be great for those who build medieval mocs in flesh!
Definitely picking up 41076 for the 6-stemmed flower alone…
