LEGO Dimensions Sets Released & Store Display Photos!

After the calamity that occurred last year for kids and collectors trying to collect the first wave of Nintendo Amiibo figures, I was really afraid of huge shortages for the LEGO Dimensions launch. And so, even though I ordered all my LEGO Dimensions sets online, I went to see how well-stocked (or not) my closest video game retailers were this morning. And as it turns out, the answer is “pretty well-stocked”!

LEGO Dimensions Target Stocked Display

Though I knew that Toys R Us was going to have the largest display of LEGO Dimensions toys around (seeing as how I was casing the place yesterday–I feel like a stalker or something), they don’t open up until 10AM on Sunday.

And so, I decided to head the nearest 8AM-opening Taget store to check out their “modest” display first instead this morning. But while Target only had a scant 30+ pegs of LEGO Dimensions toys on the shelves, I was pleasantly surprised to see almost every one of the first wave of sets present!

Target LEGO Dimensions Store Display SetsWhile several fun packs were MIA at Target (off the top of my head, I remember the Laval, Jay the Blue Ninja and Cyborg Fun Pack were missing), all of the Team Packs and Level Packs that launched today were available (though the Jurassic World Team Pack was almost sold out).

I’ve heard that the Jay and Laval packs are meant to be timed Toys R Us exclusive sets, but I’ve also heard of folks finding and buying both sets at Gamestop stores, so it sounds like these sets may or may not be tricky to find for a short while.

LEGO Dimensions Team Packs & Level Packs at Target Simpsons Portal Back to the FutureImpressed with what I saw at Target, I made the trek to Toys R Us to see if they could outdo their for.

And oh, did they ever!

Fully-Stocked LEGO Dimensions Display at Toys R UsMultiple pegs filled with every single LEGO Dimensions pack were fully-stocked at Toys R Us, from every single theme: Back to the Future, The Wicked Witch of the West, Chima, Simpsons, Scooby-Doo, Portal–all present and accounted for!

Toys R Us Gift Card free with LEGO Dimensions Purchase

And though over set (except the Starter Pack) is marked up two bucks at TRU, their free $10 gift card with a $35 LEGO Dimensions you purchase makes Toys R Us the best place to buy these sets today (provided you’ll actually use a TRU gift card in the future).

Meanwhile, I’m waiting patiently for UPS to drop by this afternoon and deliver my online haul of LEGO Dimensions sets, which were safely pre-ordered many months ago. Having seen all the toys in stores now already, this wait is particularly excruciating!

LEGO Dimensions Video Game & Figures Released in StoresHow did you make out at your local stores today, brick fans? Are you impressed with the stock and displays for Dimensions that you’re seeing locally, and did you bring home any shiny new LEGO sets today?

  1. This is so unfair. I have to wait until 2nd of october.
Could you please explain the diffrence between team, toy and level pack? Do you play them the same?

    • Team packs contain multiple figures/builds that can be used in-game, a Fun Pack is centered on one character you can use in-game (ie Benny, Cragger, etc.) and a Level Pack unlocks new levels in the game that are otherwise not available (ie Portal, Back to the Future).

      • Thank you for the great answer! Then it is the level packs who is the most desirable for me. 🙂 How many level packs is there right now on the release?

  2. Could you give me an idea of which of these sets would be most likely to sell out?….I’ve got to save enough to buy my “Bricktober” sets throughout the month of Oct., but I don’t want to miss out on any sets that may be sold out before then….
    Thanks!

  3. I bought the Back to the Future pack JUST for the lego set (I don’t play many video games) and was VERY disappointed to find out the building instructions are IN GAME ONLY and not included in any pack.

    • LEGO is aware that they screwed up not having the instructions for all the builds in the packaging, and has promised via their official Twitter that the instructions for every set will be online shortly. 🙂

  4. That’s a real bummer…I really get frustrated w TRU and thier fine print. Thanks for saving me the embarassment!
Can you buy the Bricktober sets weekly or do I have to wait till the end of the month and get the crumby left-overs?
I went kookoo at the Star Wars release so I don’t have anything left I wanted to get ( necessarily)in Lego sets.

  5. Good news for everyone, myself included, that was hoping to grab the Bricktober sets at TRU for free w/ the purchase of $75 worth (unfortunately excluded) Lego Dimensions sets AND have already broke the bank in September buying all the new Star Wars sets….

For the first time, at least in my neck of the woods, you can purchase the Bricktober set for $19.99 instead of making a qualifying purchase of $75 .

Last year TRU made you wait until the promo period ended (Oct 30 ’14) to ensure that everyone participating in the promotion was served their qualified Bricktober set. It could stand to chance that you may not get the set…

    Just an FYI!

  6. Ya, I was wondering where Stay Puft and Dr. Who are released as well, I thought they would be in wave 1…please advise….

    • We’ve got a while until Stay Puft hits stores in the spring: http://bit.ly/LEGODimensionsGhostbusters

Doctor Who Level Pack is scheduled for November 3rd, and Ghostbusters Level Pack for January. I suspect the releases are staggered on these so the software company has time to complete the levels and make them as good as possible. 🙂
