As far as the hype-o-meter goes, the licenses that are all-new to LEGO Dimensions (such as Wizard of Oz and Portal 2) are definitely blowing the roof off the meter. But there are some other new-for-2015 themes also getting the video game expansion pack treatment, and two of them were just revealed this weekend! Coming this fall: the 71205 LEGO Dimensions Jurassic World and 71206 Scooby-Doo Team Packs!
Based off of blurry images that leaked the same day as LEGO Dimensions was officially announced, it’s long been rumored that Jurassic World and Scooby-Doo characters would be joining the game. Well, they’re not rumors anymore! Both franchises are officially joining the Dimensions game!
I think that this LEGO Jurassic World Team Pack 71205 is going to be very popular with kids and collectors for a number of reasons. First and foremost, the set includes a brick-built raptor figure! Cool! We’re getting all four named raptors as regular figures in the Jurassic World sets already released, so it’s a nice surprise to get something new and different as part of this Jurassic World Dimensions set.
The little brick-built Jurassic World gyrosphere vehicle that comes with the set also looks neat, and it’ll be a fun vehicle to command in-game.
Finally, we get another ACU Minifigure with a Shock Stick. I don’t think anyone was clamorring for another of these generic figures–and certainly not to control in a video game. I think one of the kids would have been a far better choice, personally.
But if Jurassic Park is a bit too dark and gory for your tastes, maybe the LEGO Dimensions Scooby-Doo Team Pack 71206 will be more to your liking!
This Scooby-Doo Dimensions set is unfortunately a bit of a disappointment to me all-around. I would have loved actual Scooby-Doo levels to play in-game, but with this not being a Level Pack, it doesn’t seem likely.
I do think the brick-built Mystery Machine mini build looks really good, but I can’t imagine what use a giant brick-built sandwich will be in-game (besides being funny). I guess I’ll have to wait until fall to find out!
Most of the LEGO Dimensions Series 1 packs are now available for pre-order, with the remainder of the sets expected to pop up for order very soon. I definitely recommend pre-ordering these sets, as I have a hunch they’re going to sell like wildfire and be very difficult to track down in stores (a la Nintendo Amiibo). I’ll post an update to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook Page whenever new sets go up for sale, so keep your eyes peeled.
What do you think of the last two Series 1 LEGO Dimensions Team Packs, brick fans? Will you be picking up either of these sets, or do they not contain enough fresh characters and ideas to earn your dollars?
