As a nearly-unlimited number of LEGO sets are released each year and I only have limited space and limited funds to buy them with, some compromise is necessary. As such, I generally stick to collecting licensed LEGO sets and specific LEGO action themes I like the most (like LEGO Ninjago and LEGO Chima). But sometimes the LEGO City theme knows just how to draw me in, and it’s with slice-of-life, everday sets that are just so mundane and commonplace that everyone can relate to them (even me). One such set is coming as part of the LEGO City Summer 2014 sets–LEGO Train Station 60050!
What’s to love about the LEGO City Train Station 60050? Frankly–everything! I’ve spent more time in my life sitting around train stations than I’d like to remember, and I feel like this set reflects so many of the multitude of train stations I’ve sat around at astoundingly well. From now having enough seats for everyone to sit down outside to the ATM Machine and train map on the wall, LEGO has managed to perfectly capture the feel and experience of your everyday Train Station!
I absolutely love the details of this set like the security cameras, mediocre food kiosk, trash cans, bicycle (and bicycle stand), and ceiling-hanging clock. There’s even an adorable little LEGO taxi cab included with the set! You also get five minifigures including a LEGO Conductor, Chef, Taxi Driver and two LEGO travelers/passengers.
If there’s one thing that’s hindering my love of the 60050 LEGO Train Station, it’s the unbelievably high price-point of the set. The LEGO City 2014 Train Station set contains 423 pieces for a price-point of $64.99. That’s over 15 cents per piece–50% higher than my “LEGO value sweet spot” of 10 cents per piece! The inclusion of four pieces of connection rail tracks accounts for raising the price of the set somewhat, but this particular set’s price seems almost extortionist. (I’m gonna buy it anyway, mind you–but I’m going to half-begrudge LEGO when I do it.)
>The 60050 LEGO Train Station is part of the Summer 2014 LEGO City sets wave. The set is expected to be released in the United States in May/June 2014 (and shortly before that internationally). I’ll post an update once the LEGO City Train Station 60050 is found in retail stores, and you can ‘Like’ Bricks and Bloks on Facebook to have news, alerts and images beamed right to your Facebook Newsfeed!
Has LEGO won you over with the commonplace cuteness of the LEGO 60050 Train Station, LEGO fans? Will you be purchasing this set with (or without) the complementary LEGO High Speed Passenger Train set that’s also arriving in stores this summer?
I may pick this up to go with my two Lego Christmas train sets. But I’ll probably wait for a 20% off sale. It is a nice looking set though.
