Some of the most popular franchises in entertainment history have become a LEGO reality over the course of the past few years, such as LEGO Minecraft, LEGO Back to the Future and LEGO Ghostbusters. All of these LEGO dreams became reality due to the amazing LEGO CUUSOO program, and another pop culture phenomenon may be joining them soon! In just one month, the LEGO Big Bang Theory CUUSOO project has received 10,000 supporters, and will now enter the official LEGO review stage!
The CUUSOO LEGO The Big Bang Theory set will be reviewed by LEGO during the second review phase of 2014, running from May to September 2014. At the end of that time period, LEGO will let fans know the results of the review and whether or the LEGO Big Bang Theory set (and all the other sets up for review in that period!) will become a reality.
The proposed set would also include seven LEGO Big Bang Theory minifigures: Howard, Bernadette, Amy, Sheldon, Leonard, Penny and Rajesh minifigures! In fact, even Raj’s dog, Cinnamon, would perhaps appear in LEGO form! Several different torsos have been created for a possible LEGO Sheldon minifigure, though I’m reasonably certain Sheldon’s Flash T-Shirt is the most popular possible design to choose.
If you asked me to give my honest assessment, I would have to admit that I think that the Mini-Big Bang Theory is going to be a much tougher sell to LEGO as a franchise than LEGO Ghostbusters and LEGO Back to the Future were. The Big Bang Theory, while popular, isn’t nearly as iconic as those previous LEGO CUUSOO winners. I really don’t know how likely it is that this particular set will get approved by LEGO, but for the sake of all the fans out there, I sure hope that it does.
I’ll post an update once LEGO announced the results of the second 2014 CUUSOO review phase and the fate of the Big Bang Theory LEGO set, and you can ‘Like Bricks and Bloks on Facebook’ to have news, updates and photos sent right to your Facebook Newsfeed.
I’m not a Big Bang Theory viewer myself, but I know many people are passionate about the TV sitcom, so I wish this Big Bang Theory CUUSOO set well. What about you, LEGO fans? Are you hoping that LEGO greenlights this LEGO The Big Bang Theory set for production in 2015?
BTTF and Ghostbusters have one main thing going for them, other than nostaglia: a cool car. This thing is little more than a diorama, although to be fair, most of the smaller Lego Friends sets are pretty much dioramas also, so there is precedent for this.
But… it kind of feels like Cuusoo should be used more for vehicles than for minifigure sets.
I think this is an amazing set and while I have never put out more than $60 for a set I would totally buy this!!!! So excited and want it now. How long does it usually take for an idea to go from concept to the real thing?
The review period ends in September 2014, so we would theoretically see the set released in early 2015 if it was approved.
I don’t see this passing review. It doesn’t seem to have any “play value” which most of the other sets do.
I want to get this set so that I will have some normal faces to use for my Lego people. Lemon heads just don’t work for adults, although I love the facial expressions of the basic Lego guys. This should solve my problem. So they can bring it on!
