With this being a quiet week (following last week’s blitzkrieg of LEGO news), I can finally dig in and continue to look at more of the LEGO Winter 2015 sets that are due out in the next one to two months. And the sets receiving the most buzz are, of course, the LEGO Avengers Age of Ultron sets. You might say “We just got a LEGO Quinjet movie three years ago–do we really need another?” But having spent some time examining this year’s LEGO Avengers Quinjet City Chase 76032 set, I think the answer is a resounding “yes”…
First, let’s rock out to the official LEGO description for this set: “Launch a high-speed pursuit of Ultron with the Avengers in the iconic Quinjet. Place Black Widow at the controls in the cockpit and soar into the sky. Fire the stud shooters and release Captain America on his super-cool bike to take the pursuit to the streets. Iron Man MK43 is flying alongside the Quinjet using his thrusters, ready to take on Ultron. When the time is right, make the perfect jump onto the truck to explode the sides and reveal the precious cargo.”
The 2015 Quinjet doesn’t have a whole lot in the way of action features, as a pair of twin stuff shooters on the top of the vehicle seem to be the only real “gimmick” that’s been built into the set. I’m perfectly happy with that, however, as it looks like LEGO really concentrated on giving us a sleek, cool design for this blue and white Quinjet this time out.
The 6869 Quinjet Aerial Assault vehicle released three years ago was awkward-looking and a bit chunkier than I would have liked, so I think that this year’s streamlined Quinjet model is a marked improvement over its predecessor.
The LEGO 76032 Avengers Quinjet City Chase set includes five minifigures, of which three are exclusives: LEGO Vision, Ultimate Ultron, Black Widow, Captain America and Iron Man Mark 43.
While the Captain America and Iron Man Mark 43 minifigures are available in other (cheaper) sets, the LEGO Black Widow, Ultimate Ultron and Vision minifigures are all exclusively available in LEGO 76032, giving this set both star power for mass appeal and exclusivity appeal for die-hard collectors.
Even the hi-res photos aren’t quite large enough to see Vision and Ultimate Ultron as clearly as I’d like, but when I blew up both photos, it was pretty clear that the LEGO Vision figure does in fact have a purple head and hands, unlike red as we all originally thought.
LEGO unfortunately doesn’t seem to have added much color to the Age of Ultron Black Widow minifigure, but she is slightly different from her past release–and I do love dual-wielding women!
Meanwhile, Captain America gets his second motorcycle, as the first was the patriotic red-and-blue LEGO Captain America’s Avenging Cycle 6865 released back in 2012. According to the official description, this bike is “super-cool”, but I sort of prefer the America-colored one…
The LEGO Avengers Age of Ultron Quinjet City Chase set is expected to be released in late February/March 2015. The set includes 722 pieces and will retail for £84.99, although the US price-point for the set is still unknown. I’ll post an update to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook Page once the U.S. release details for this set are confirmed, so be sure to ‘Like’ us on Facebook if you want news and alerts beamed right to your Facebook Newsfeed.
Now that you’ve seen the clear images of the set, what do you think of this year’s 76032 LEGO The Avengers Quinjet City Chase set, Marvel fans? Is this set a worthy buy (even if you own the 2012 version of the Quinjet), or will you be saving your ~$70-$85 for something else later this winter?
That’s Caps third bike.
The original one, and the one in that Hydra set.
This set looks great, I’m much more likely to get this than the tower.
I have two complaints about this set, one for myself, one for others:
1: As someone who has the original Quinjet and doesn’t really want another, I’m annoyed Vision is exclusive to this set. I don’t mind so much about the Ultron, since there are so many other versions of him, but it is annoying for it to be the only place to get a classic member of the team.
2: On the other hand, if I had zero interest in either Quinjet, I’d be really annoyed that once again Black Widow was exclusive to the expensive Quinjet set. I know there’s a need for exclusives in these big sets, but I’m sure they could have come up with a better solution (e.g., switch the sets Black Widow and Hawkeye are in, since both are exclusive, or maybe include an exclusive Bruce Banner or something).
You could always get the helicarrier set instead…
Ummm, actually the quinjet is the biggest, not the tower.
You are totally correct. For whatever reason, I was ranking them by cost-per-piece, which really makes no sense at all.
As someone who missed out on getting the 2012 quinjet, I was really annoyed I never got my hands on that set.
And now this has come out and I couldn’t be happier that I never got the other set! This is in every way better. Along with the Hulkbuster set, these are my two definite picks from AoU.
Now, I can only hope that Quicksilver appears in a better set later on – there’s no way I’m getting Burglary at the Hydra Fortress just for him. Sorry Quicksilver.
