When it comes to the question of “What is the worst-kept secret in major upcoming LEGO sets?” over the past few years, my immediate answer is “the LEGO Marvel SHIELD Helicarrier”. News of the LEGO Avengers Helicarrier set’s impending arrival has spread like wildfire for months, and every day someone has asked me when it will appear. Well, finally I can give a different answer today: the LEGO S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier 76042 has now been revealed!!
UPDATE 2/17/2015: The LEGO SHIELD Helicarrier is now available for order online! (Make sure you log into your LEGO VIP account, though, or it won’t show up!)
If you’ve been planning on adding the 76042 Helicarrier LEGO set as the centerpiece of your Marvel collection, you may need to clear some more space on your shelf (or dining room table)–the LEGO Avengers Helicarrier is a gargantuan 31 inches long by 17 inches wide by 11 inches tall! That’s over two and a half feet long and almost a foot and a half wide–yikes!!
The LEGO Avengers Helicarrier UCS set will include five minifigures: a LEGO Maria Hill minifigure (for the first and likely only time ever!), a new LEGO Nick Fury minifigure, Hawkeye, Captain America and Black Widow.
The figures will come with a brick-built SHIELD Logo Display Base which, quite frankly, looks absolutely awesome. I usually don’t care for these brick-built figure stands, but this one could bring a tear to me eye it’s so beautiful!*sniff*
The big prizes here are obviously the SHIELD Agent Maria Hill figure and the newly-designed LEGO Nick Fury figure.
This is also the first time that we’re getting a specifically mask-less Steve Rogers Captain America minifigure. Nice tough–Steve will go great with that LEGO Winter Soldier minifigure coming in a few months that we “don’t know about” yet!
But wait–there are more figures! As the regular-sized 2″ LEGO Minifigures are obviously not scaled appropriately to this gigantic UCS SHIELD Helicarrier, LEGO is also doing is the ginormous favor of including the first ever dozen LEGO Marvel micro figures with the set!
The twelve LEGO microfigures included with the Helicarrier are Captain America, Nick Fury, Iron Man, Hawkeye and eight SHIELD Agents. We have so many Iron Man minifigures already that I am A-OK with a regular-sized LEGO Iron Man figure being left out of this set.
You’ll also notice a bunch of other micro-scale elements included in this set, such as three microscale Quinjets, three fighter jets, a gasoline truck, two forklift trucks, two runways and four road blockades!
There’s even a little factoid plaque included with specs on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, just like we get with all of the LEGO Star Wars UCS sets! Classy!
Now comes the part everyone is dreading: the price. The LEGO Marvel UCS Helicarrier set will cost a wallet-busting $349.99–and as a LEGO Store exclusive, there’s virtually no chance of the Ultimate Collector’s Series Helicarrier set going on sale or discounted in the future. If you want this set, be prepared to pay $350 plus tax for it (I will be! *gulp*).
And if images aren’t enough to get you salivating over the LEGO The SHIELD Helicarrier 76042 set, perhaps the official reveal video above that LEGO created will do the trick! Seeing the LEGO The S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier in action with all of the engines moving at once definitely brought me to a new level of excitement.
The LEGO SHIELD Helicarrier is now available for order online! (Make sure you log into your LEGO VIP account, though, or it won’t show up!)” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>The 76042 LEGO UCS Helicarrier is now available exclusively through the online LEGO Store and physical LEGO Store chain for LEGO VIP Members, and will go up for sale on 3/1/2015 for the general public. I have a feeling that this is going to be a set–like the UCS Slave-I released earlier this month–that is going to have its initial shipment wiped out immediately once it goes up for sale.
I’ll send out an update via the Bricks and Bloks Facebook Page once the LEGO Marvel Helicarrier set is up for order for non-VIP Members, so be sure to ‘Like’ our Facebook Page if you want updates and photos beamed right to your Facebook Newsfeed! I’ll also be posting live photos of the LEGO Marvel The S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier set from New York Toy Fair 2015 next months as well, so stay tuned for more on this masterpiece of a LEGO Marvel set!
What do you think of the largest and most spectacular LEGO Marvel set ever made, Marvel fans? Are you willing to shell out $350 for the best SHIELD Helicarrier toy likely to ever be produced?
I’m also shocked by the non-inclusion of Coulson. It just doesn’t make sense, given how much screen time he’s gotten, and this is the obvious place to include a character like him that’s popular with adult Marvel fans, but not necessarily with kids (though he does have a prominent role in Ultimate Spider-Man, so even they’ve got to be familiar with him…).
On the other hand, I really like the maskless Steve Rogers. A nice touch.
Maybe Coulson will be the exclusive minifigure for the Lego Avengers game thats just been announced, that would be great!
Yes, please!
Well, I most likely won’t be buying as I am not so much of a Marvel fan, but the one “positive” thing about expensive sets such as this, they tend to stick around a fairly long time, unlike some of the inexpensive sets that sometimes disappear in 6 months. So, most likely people who are on Lego budgets will have a fair amount of time to save. Also, although initially a Lego exclusive, don’t be surprised if eventually it does get to other retail outlets. Lego probably wants to milk it for a while, but they are in the business of making money, so if a broader distribution network will make them more money, I’m sure that is what they will do. 🙂
I hope they make Phil Coulson, Maria Hill, Black Widow, and Thor microfigures at some point in the future so we can have a whole set of Avengers. We could use the minifig scale Hulk that was a free giveaway ages ago to round out the set.
a very, very great set
but in fact, also expensive
so i have to show …
I love it and I love the micro minifigures!!!! but it´s too expensive .. this time my vallet will survive the need..
Im prepared to get this set i mean i managed to save for the sea cow which was 250 this one is just a hundred dollars more right…
Expensive (UK price is £270)
Should have Coulson (but I can think of reasons why not).
Like the microfigs (but should have Banner included).
Should stay in stock for a while (so save up for Christmas maybe?)
Not as elegant as Lego Ideas submission (but the piece count is lower so that’s understandable) and from the back looks awkward.
All things being equal, I’d buy this set.
Now, to convince my AFOL-widow…
Guys, there are two reasons of why Coulson isn’t in this set.
1.) He comes in the carnages shield sky attack, as it is confirmed a shield agent comes in the set.
or
2.) Lego is making him a pre order exclusive for the new lego avengers videogame, just like with iron patriot and plastic man.
Why don’t they make a death star playset with mini scale figs as well
Because they already did a long time ago and it should be retiring soon so if they make a new one it will be most likely be U.C.S. and will probably have microfigures.
It was supposed to be released here in Australia 19th February but put back to 1st March! Why?A $499 as opposed to US$350. Even with the exchange rate its still over the top.
