LEGO Attack on Avengers Tower 76038 Hi-Res Photos!

With the copious amount of surprise LEGO products for the second half of 2015 that popped up over the last few days, I haven’t had a chance to sit back and talk about some of the newly-revealed hi-res images of the most highly-anticipated sets coming in the first half of 2015. Chief among them is the largest one of the LEGO Marvel Avengers Age of Ultron sets (no, the Helicarrier won’t be in the movie, so the LEGO Helicarrier doesn’t not count). Coming our way later this winter–it’s the LEGO Attack on Avengers Tower 76038 set!

When we last saw Stark Tower–or rather, Avengers Tower–at the end of “The Avengers” movie, it was the glistening newly-completed headquarters for the world’s mightiest heroes. But like all superhero headquarters, it looks like Avengers Tower was just too good of a target for villains to pass up, as the LEGO Marvel 2015 LEGO 76038 Attack on Avengers Tower set shows Avengers Tower, well… under attack!

Just what’s going on here? According to the set writeup: “The Heroes are having a party when suddenly Avengers Tower comes under Ultron attack from the inside! Evil Ultron Mark 1 has assembled himself in the lab and is exploding out the windows. Help Iron Man and Thor to defeat Ultron and the 2 Iron Legion accomplices under his control.” Things sound dire!

LEGO Avengers Tower Playset LEGO Marvel 2015 SetWhile this set only includes the top floors of Avengers Tower and not the whole tower (obviously), what’s here does still look terrific and is packed with fun features. The stud shooters actually make sense attached to this building, and I’m looking forward to getting better views of the laboratory and the medical bay of Avengers Tower once the set is released.

LEGO Avengers Age of Ultron Thor and Iron Man Mark 43 MinifiguresOn the hero side, the 76038 Attack on Avengers Tower LEGO set includes two minifigures: Thor and Iron Man Mark 43. Neither of these figures is especially desirable, as both are repacked in other (cheaper) sets, but if you want Avengers Tower and don’t want those sets, you might as well get Iron Man and Thor here.

LEGO Iron Legion Minifigures and LEGO Ultron Mark 1 MinifigureThe villainous side of things, however, is far more interesting, as all three villain minifigures are exclusive to LEGO 76038. You get two potential army-builder LEGO Iron Legion minifigures in this set, which both look a bit like the Starboost Iron Man armor from Iron Man 3. In Iron Man 3, Tony Stark’s armada of drones were known as the Iron Legion as well, but clearly this is a more sinister Iron Legion.

The LEGO Marvel Attack on Avengers Tower set is also the exclusive home of the original Ultron, the LEGO Ultron Mark 1 Minifigure. We can’t see him very well in these images, but this is obviously a crucial figure of Ultron to have.

76038 LEGO Attack on Avengers Tower Accessories Loki's Staff ScepterHey, look at the set contents! There’s Loki’s staff! What’s that doing in Avengers Tower? Let’s refer to the official set description for LEGO 76038 for any insight: “An Iron Legion is blasting out the doors and windows of the ground-floor robot bay. Ultron has stolen the Loki Scepter from the analysis lab so pursue him with Thor and take aim from the roof of the tower with the secret hidden drone and stud shooters.”

Hunh! That doesn’t really give us a lot of insight into how the Avengers came about Loki’s scepter (seeing as how Baron Von Strucker had it during the credits of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”), but it does at least confirm that that is Loki’s staff.

76038 LEGO Avengers Age of Ultron Attack on Avengers Tower SetThe LEGO Avengers Age of Ultron Attack on Avengers Tower 76038 set includes 511 pieces and is scheduled to be released in March 2015. It may end up hitting slightly earlier or slightly later than that (I’m actually wagering on late February 2015), but it’ll be somewhere in that time range. I’ll post an update to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook Page once the official U.S. MSRP of this set is revealed, and again when the set is first sighted in the United States.

Now that we can see pretty clear photos of the set, how do you like LEGO Avengers Tower, Marvel fans? Are you interested in adding a piece of the Avengers’ headquarters to your collection, or does this set not offer up a large enough playset to get you excited?

  1. I want to say the Hydra fortress set (forget it’s official name) has Baron Strucker with the staff, so this would be after that. I imagine maybe the film will open in medias res, with the Avengers attacking the Hydra base (perhaps after some lead-up in Agents of SHIELD), defeating Strucker, finding the staff and the Maximoff twins, and then returning to Avengers Tower to celebrate, when Ultron 1 breaks out. My guess is that would be roughly the first half hour, not counting the battle the ensues between the Avengers and Ultron 1 and his Iron Legion drones.
