Continuing on with my looks at the upcoming LEGO Jurassic World sets (which will be here in under a month and a half and counting!), today I’m looking at the smallest Jurassic World LEGO set. This set also happens to be unique amongst all of its brethren. Why? Because while it does include a large flying reptile, it doesn’t contain a (true) dinosaur at all–it’s the LEGO Pteranodon Capture 75915 set!
And according to my wife, pteranodons–as seen in Jurassic Park III and Jurassic World–aren’t really dinosaurs at all (who knew!?). Pteranodons are apparently actually a type of pterosaur, or flying reptile (which sounds weird, but it’s similar to how a blue whale is a swimming mammal–crazy!).
But genuine dinosaurs or not, pteranodons do appear in the Jurassic Parks movies, and as I saw at the New York Toy Fair 2015 last month, pteranodons will also appear in this LEGO 75915 Pteranodon Capture set.
I thought that the LEGO Pteranodon figure looked a little anemic, but my wife says that it’s actually a pretty accurate representation of a pteranodon, which were mostly just a big flap of skin.
I’m told that a real pteranodon would have never been able to carry a person while flying around. But, well–they do it in Jurassic Park 3, and it looks like they’ll be doing so again in the Jurassic World movie and this 75915 LEGO Jurassic World Pteranodon Capture set!
In addition to the red and grey Pteranodon LEGO dinosaur figure, Pteranodon Capture 75915 will also include two minifigures: another ACU minifigure and a Simon Masrani minifigure.
Simon Masrania is a CEO and the founder of Jurassic World in the upcoming movie, meaning that he’s a rich corporate bigwig. Not the most exciting subject for a figurine, but certainly an important enough individual in the Jurassic Park mythos to warrant a LEGO minifig.
Priced at $19.99 for 174 pieces, this is yet another Jurassic World LEGO set that goes over my target value of ten cents per piece. That said, I do want a LEGO Pteranodon figure in my collection (and I wouldn’t mind have the founder of Jurassic World either), so I’m filling to shell out the 11.5 cents per piece for this set next month.
The LEGO Jurassic World toys are scheduled to be released in May 2015, but we can be fairly certain that we’ll see 75915 LEGO Pteranodon Capture and the other Jurassic World sets starting to arrive in stores late next month. With my wife being a total dinosaur nut, I suspect all five sets will be in our home before the movie even hits theaters.
What do you think of the LEGO Jurassic World Pteranodon Capture set, dinosaur fans? Will this be one of the Jurassic World theme sets you buy this summer, or are you uninspired by this set containing a businessman and no real dinosaurs?
Just an FYI; though hilarious, your type-o in the last paragraph may get you put into the dog-house…..
“With my wife being a total dinosaur but, I suspect all five sets will be in our home before….”
I assume your wife is relatively the same age as you are, definitely a Gen X-er like me, so that doesn’t make sense.
Otherwise “but” is supposed to be “nut”; or you are sharing too much about her weight with the rest us….
Made me laugh all the same….
Love your blog!

You are correct, Amy! I have fixed that type-o, as I do wish to avoid being couched for a week. Thanks! =D
Lel???
I forget what the technical definition for dinosaur is that excludes the pterodon type guys, but honestly, “large, extinct reptiles” is what most people go by.
