Now that we’re an entire week into January 2014, we can safely jump ahead and start thinking about the future–namely, February 2014! With The LEGO Movie coming to theaters next month, you might think the month would have a strong focus on the LEGO Movie theme–and you’d be right! The February 2014 LEGO Store Calendar has now been released by LEGO, featuring the free LEGO Movie Piece of Resistance 30280 promo polybag, as well as some other worthwhile sales, promos and announcements! Read on for the details of everything going on at the LEGO Stores in February 2014…
While I’m definitely not one to turn my nose up at a LEGO freebie, the LEGO 30280 Piece of Resistance set is a little bit bland. We’re getting plenty of Emmet Minifigures packed with the various LEGO Movie sets (as well as a blind bagged Emmet), so this Piece of Resistance Emmet doesn’t really have a whole lot to offer that we haven’t seen before.
On the other hand, the Piece of Resistance itself will be a plot device from the LEGO Movie that a lot of kids (and collectors) may want to own to recreate scenes from the movie, so it’s possible there’ll be a big demand for this promo (depending largely on whether or not the LEGO Movie is, well… good).
The front of the calendar also announces that a new, exclusive set will go up for sale early for LEGO VIPs on Monday, February 17 2014. I’ve heard some people hoping that it’s the LEGO Simpsons House, but I think that’s pretty unlikely–it’ll almost certainly be the (poorly-kept secret) LEGO Movie Metalbeard’s Sea Cow 70810 set instead. The 2,741 piece LEGO Metalbeard’s Sea Cow set should logically be released during the same month as The LEGO Movie, while there’s still enough hype to sell a ~$200 LEGO Movie set.
The back of the February 2014 LEGO Stores calendar isn’t quite as exciting as the front, as the only real information of interest on the back of the calendar is the two new LEGO Stores opening next month (in Las Vegas, NV and Staten Falls, NY) and next month’s Monthly Mini Build.
For once I’m not terribly jealous of children who get to create the Free Monthly Mini Model Build, as the LEGO Store February 2014 Monthly Mini Model Build is a Micro Manager from The LEGO Movie. We’re getting a bunch of similar Micro Manager builds with the LEGO Movie winter 2014 sets wave, so it’s not great loss for us old folks to not be able to participate in the Monthly Mini Build (this time).
And that’s it, really! Are you excited for the LEGO Stores’ February 2014 calendar of events, or are you feeling like Feb. 2014 is looking a bit “ho-hum” on the LEGO front?
Ive recently started readimg your site and i was wondering if you knew if the lego movie metalbeards seacow will be available to get in Australia, via some non lego store exclusive (we dont have them here) or online?
Hey Omenix–
Metalbeard’s Sea Cow should be available via the AU LEGO Shop online store. 🙂
