Despite the fact that work scheduling conflicts have prevented us from attending it more than a whopping one time, Star Wars Celebration is probably my personal favorite convention. I badly wanted to attend Star Wars Celebration Anaheim this month, but it just was not to be. I’ve been seething with jealousy over missing the Funko Star Wars exclusives for the past week, and now I’ve got one more reason to be envious: a brand new mini Star Wars Celebration Anaheim Exclusive LEGO Tatooine set has now been revealed!
UPDATED 4/16: Hi-res images of the LEGO Star Wars Tatooine Mini Build set have finally been added!
For whatever reason, toy manufacturers have been very slow to announce their Star Wars Celebration 2015 exclusives this year. With the con taking place in just over a week, most merchandisers have only just revealed their exclusives–while others still haven’t done so!
One of the companies that has not officially announced their own exclusive yet for Celebration Anaheim is LEGO. But it looks like they may have waited too long to do so and someone else has done it for them, as several auction listings have now turned up online for a previously totally unannounced LEGO Star Wars Celebration Anaheim exclusive Tatooine set!
We can’t make out many details of the Tatooine mini-build just yet from the tiny, grainy photos of the exclusive Tatooine set, but we can make out some important elements of the set:
- LEGO Lars Family Homestead (never before done in brick form!)
- Mini Jawa Sandcrawler
- Mini Landspeeder (in an odd banana yellow color)
- Mini R2-D2 Micro Figure
- Mini Luke Skywalker Micro Figure
- Mini Jawas Micro Figures (2)
- Mini C-3PO Micro Figure
- C-3PO Minifigure (Standard Size)
…Wow, that’s a lot to stick into such a small set! I’ve no idea why LEGO felt the compulsion to stick a plain old C-3PO figure into this set, but perhaps there’s some exclusive detailing on the figure that we just can’t make out yet in these super low-res images?
Now, generally I don’t feel a need to buy every LEGO Star Wars set–I have neither the space nor the money to fulfill that dream. That said, I have a huge weakness for any Tatooine sets, especially sets having to do with the Jawas! So, a mini Jawa Sandcrawler? Yeah, I’m there–even at sure-to-be extortionist aftermarket prices for the set. At the moment, pre-orders for this set are selling for $280-$300 online, but I’m hoping to see the prices stabilize at $100-$150 after the convention begins (hopefully). You can check out the ongoing auction listings for the LEGO Tatooine exclusive mini build sets, and I’ll post an update once hi-res images of this set are revealed (which must be in the next few days, what with Star Wars Celebration VII happening 9 days from now and all!).
How do you feel about this year’s Star Wars Celebration LEGO exclusive set, Star Wars fans? Will you be picking up this set in Anaheim (or paying a premium for it on the aftermarket), or does this type of niche mini-build just not appeal to your finer galactic sensibilities?
Looks nice, but there is no way id pay $100+ for this little thing!
No, I wouldn’t be paying $100 for this thing either. Outside of potential exclusive printing on the CP3O, are there any exclusive pieces? If not, then can not someone just re-create it on their own from their own stash? Most of these pieces are only pennies, and they going to charge a dollar or more per piece on the after market? I suspect there will be people on ebay that won’t be reading the fine print as to the miniature size of this set and are going to be *very* disappointed when they receive. I guess you are paying megabucks for just the box?
I think I will wait until the Lars family homestead is released in a larger size (hopefully in my lifetime).
