LEGO Research Institute 21110 Set Back In Stock Online!

UPDATE 12/12/2014: It’s taken a few months, but the LEGO Research Institute set is now back in stock and available for order online!

Earlier this summer, LEGO announced both the name change of LEGO CUUSOO to “LEGO Ideas” and that the next fan-designed concept that would be produced would be that of the female minifigures set designed by Alatariel Elensar.

I really didn’t expect that LEGO would have the finished product ready to be shown off at all until late summer or early fall, but it appears LEGO was farther along with the set than I thought! The LEGO Research Institute 21110 set has now been fully revealed!

Rarely is a LEGO set that isn’t some sort of exclusive and doesn’t have “LEGO Star Wars” in the name end up being one of the absolute most-anticipated LEGO sets of the year, and never has one of those sets contained mini-dolls instead of minifigures. But there’s a first time for everything, and this is it, Frozen fans! What you’ve all been waiting for since the set was announced in the fall: I haven’t found it yet myself, but various online sellers have now received and started selling the LEGO Frozen Elsa’s Castle 41062 set!

Over the weekend I chatted up a storm about the upcoming LEGO Elves Azari’s Bakery 41074 set, but that’s not the only LEGO Elves set that made its grand debut online in the last few days. In fact, the final one of the LEGO 2015 Elves sets to be revealed is actually the largest, most grandiose and expensive one of them all–and the only one of the Elves sets including a human mini-doll: it’s the 505-piece LEGO Elves Treetop Hideaway 41075!

There’s a lot of doom and gloom swirling about in LEGO Legends of Chima fandom, as rumors have begun that 2015 could be the last year for the quasi-beloved LEGO Chima theme. Chima has been one of my surprise favorite LEGO themes since its introduction, so I would be very heartbroken to see it go if the rumors are true. That said, if we are approaching the end of LEGO Legends of Chima, you wouldn’t know it by the sheer number of new sets coming in January 2015–and another one has just been revealed: it’s the LEGO Chima Vultrix’s Sky Scavenger 70228!

I mentioned a couple days ago that the LEGO marketplace is currently engaged in a vicious struggle, with every big retailer vying for our LEGO dollars. This battle has led to ubiquitous free promo LEGO sets available over the past month or so, including the long-awaited LEGO Rocket Raccoon polybag that was free at Toys R Us at the end of November. But Toys R Us isn’t done with us (and our dollars) yet! Though it arrived internationally a couple months ago, Toys R Us USA had one more promo up their sleeve that they were holding onto: the 5002124 LEGO Ninjago Dareth vs. Nindroid polybag is now available as a free promo in the United States!

I mentioned last week that making several trips to Target is part of my daily routine since a new Target store opened up a 90 second drive from my apartment. Today was one of those days that a short drive to reach the store paid off, as I was careless on my first trip in and only took a cursory walk past the aisle. The joke was on me, as Target had an unexpected promo that I had to go back for (after it was sold out)–the Target Exclusive LEGO Minifigures set, containing a LEGO Superboy minifigure and three other figures! It’s already selling online for $40-$50, so if you want this set free, now is the time to hit Target!

‘Twas the night before Thanksgiving (at least for us North American folks), and I expected things to be pretty quiet on the LEGO news front. But it seems that LEGO had other ideas! Or at least, LEGO Germany did! Because earlier today, the German LEGO website temporarily uploaded images from the first LEGO 2015 catalog–including the first gorgeous, hi-res photo of LEGO Minifigures Series 13 71008! The characters in the set are exactly what we expected, but knowing their names and seeing their glory are two different things…
