After months of shopping and preparations, we’ve finally reached Christmas Week 2015! LEGO news is ought to be pretty slow this week (at least, I hope so, because I’m actually going to be taking a few days off later this week for the holidays, crazy as that sounds). But before I go off the grid, there’s still several things left to chat about–including the last of the six main LEGO Avengers Age of Ultron sets! You might think that a battle pack with Iron Man as the central hero might be a shelfwarmer at this point, but the three army-builder Ultron minifigures included in the LEGO Iron Man vs. Ultron 76029 set say otherwise…
LEGO sure seems to think so, but just to make sure they ensnare the dollars of collectors who think otherwise, they’ve packed the LEGO Iron Man Mark 45 minifigure in with what hardcore collectors really want–army-builders!
The 76029 LEGO Iron Man vs. Ultron set will contain four figures (as is standard for a battle pack), and all four minifigures are exclusive to this set! I couldn’t tell you what the difference is between the Mark 35 Iron Man LEGO minifigure and the other versions, but LEGO’s figure names tend to be pretty reliable, so I’m certain we’ll see some minor differences between this and the other Avengers Age of Ultron Iron Man minifigures once we get a better view of this figure.
And of course, there’s also the main event of this set: three Ultron minifigures! LEGO Iron Man vs Ultron 76029 will include one LEGO Sub-Ultron Officer minifigure and two LEGO Sub-Ultron Soldier minifigures. I knew that there would be various Ultrons in Avengers AOU, but this is the first confirmation of specific Ultron robot designations. Ah, LEGO–setting the trend as always!
The LEGO 76029 Iron Man vs. Ultron set is scheduled for release in April 2015 (a month ahead of the debut of the sure-to-be record-breaking “Avengers: Age of Ultron” movie). The set will retail for £14.99 (about $23 USD), but I can’t imagine that LEGO would price a battle pack for that much in the United States, so expect to see this particular set with the same $14.99 price-tag in America.
How do you like the first-ever LEGO Marvel army-builder pack, LEGO collectors? Will you be building an Ultron army with LEGO Avengers Age of Ultron Iron Man vs. Ultron 76029 sets next year?
Based on the bootleg and custom markets, there seem to be a lot of Iron Man completists out there who want to have all the armor variations. I would say I don’t get it, but I would be absolutely the same way if they ever released Spider-Man variations that went beyond “let’s use red hips on this one”. I’m really hoping for a summer 2015 Spider-Man update influenced by the Spider-Verse event that’s influenced this season of Ultimate Spider-Man. (My holy grail would be a Gwen Stacy, Spider-Woman, but I’d think that would be an SDCC exclusive).
