For the last couple months, the LEGO has been just a wee bit late posting the next month’s LEGO Store calendar. But just when I think I’ve got a handle on it, LEGO goes and pulls the rug out from under me again! With over half a week left until July, the August 2015 LEGO Store Calendar of deals, free promos and events has now been revealed!
The most exciting part of the fresh calendar that gets posted each month is the official announcement of free promo minifigures and polybags, and like all the best months, there will be multiple free promos to get builders pumped up this August…
The Classic Spaceman promo was one of the most popular promos of 2014, so I’m excited to see that the tradition will be continued with a Classic LEGO Pirates promo in August 2015! The set includes a pirate Minifigure, a shark (eating a pirate flag!) and a small beach base with a palm tree on it quite nice for a freebie!
This exclusive Classic Pirates set will be available only from 8/1-8/14, so you’ll have to make a $75 or more purchase early in August if you want to snag one. The Classic Spaceman promo sold out early in many stores last year, and this Classic Pirate free promo very well may do the same.
In addition, there’s something to get the Friends fans amped up: a free 30205 LEGO Friends Pop Star Red Carpet polybag! It seems a bit odd to have a set entitled “Red Carpet” that doesn’t include any red bricks at all, but this is a cute promo regardless. The set is free with any Minidolls purchase of $35 throughout August.
I was actually quite impressed with the Friends Pop Stars sets that were displayed at the New York Toy Fair 2015, so I won’t mind picking up this polybag set for myself (even if the chances of me buying most of the regular LEGO Friends Pop Stars sets are very thin).
Also, while I’ve heard some people complain about the number of minidolls promos this year, but I think anything that promotes those lines and drives more girls into the LEGO Store is a terrific move.
And for those collecting all of the LEGO Star Wars posters, my favorite Star Wars movie finally has its own poster giveaway from August 24th to 30th– Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace!
I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve been waiting for this one! Finally, a poster of Jar Jar and Kid Anakin as minifigure will be going on the wall in our new house!
Of course, those are just the free promotional items! There’s also some major sets that will actually be for sale come August 1st…
The long-anticipated and much talked-about LEGO Ideas Big Bang Theory set will finally be released on 8/1/2015 at the LEGO Stores. I can’t even imagine that the initial shipments of the LEGO Big Bang Theory 21302 set won’t sell out immediately both online and in stores. This set is going to be hot.
Will there be an early-bird release of the Big Bang Theory set at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 in July…? We’ll find out in two weeks.
And for those who aren’t LEGO VIPs (for some reason), you’ll be able to get your hands on the LEGO Ferrari F40 10248 set on August 1st! VIPs have first dibs in mid-July, but if you want the August promo Pirates set or aren’t a VIP, 8/1 is the day to build the Ferrari set of your dreams!
From August 18-31, VIPs will get early access to another new exclusive set! We’re not supposed to know what this set is yet, mind you–but between you and me? It’s the super-sized LEGO Ninjago Temple 70751. I can’t wait to see this set!
And oh yeah–all of the new Summer 2015 LEGO Scooby-Doo, Minecraft, Elves and Technic sets will be available by August 1st as well! And if you haven’t seen all those sets yet, you can check out full coverage of most of them in my New York Toy Fair 2015 coverage.
I’m going to head to the store next week to see this Kangaroo set on display in person and see if it looks any better, because the promotional photo of it on the calendar kind of creeps me out.
Don’t forget that you now have to pre-register for the Mini Monthly Model Builds online the month before if you want to participate. And yes–these building events are still only for the little’uns under 13. Us old folks need not apply.
Those are all of the most important beats on the 8/2015 calendar, but you can inflate the images of the front and back of the calendar to read the details of all of the additional events going on in August (including the grand opening of a brand-new LEGO Store in Charlotte, North Carolina).
What do you think of the August 2015 LEGO Stores calendar, brick fans? Will you be heading to your local store later this summer for any of these free promos or special events, or does the newest addition to the family of calendars fail to impress you?
“I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve been waiting for this one! Finally, a poster of Jar Jar and Kid Anakin as minifigure will be going on the wall in our new house!”
Hmmm… can’t tell if you’re being truthful or sarcastic here. LOL
