Angry Birds Star Wars Mystery Bag Figures Toy Review

While I was out today, I ended up inadvertently stumbling upon something I wasn’t looking for: Hasbro’s new line of Angry Birds Star Wars toys, including the blind bags of mystery figures! I saw on the back of a blind bag that there were Han Solo in Carbonite and Wedge Antilles Angry Birds figures you could try to find exclusively in the blind bags, and I just couldn’t help myself. I purchased one blind bag, and got doubly lucky. You can too!

I’m not exactly sold on the idea of Star Wars Angry Birds, so I decided if I was going to buy one of these Mystery Bags, I wanted it to at least contain one of the exclusive figures. So I did what any self-respecting 30 year-old collector would do: stood in Toys R Us feeling up each little bag of Angry Birds Star Wars toys until I struck gold–a bag that I could only feel one spherical figure in, as well as something flat and square. I immediately took the carefully chosen blind bag to the counter, brought it home, and opened it to reveal…

…both the exclusive Han Solo Bird in Carbonite and Wedge Antilles Bird figures. Here’s my thoughts on each of them…

Han Solo Bird in Carbonite Figure: What a kooky, eccentric choice Hasbro made here! I love that they made the judgment call to pick such a fan-favorite version of Han Solo, which is extra-quirky in this particular iteration. The figure is quite large and to-scale with the other Angry Birds figures, and I really dig the great open-beaked pose on the frozen Han Solo bird. Cute figure, nice choice.

Wedge Antilles Bird Figure: And here’s another great selection by Hasbro–diehard collector favorite, Wedge Antilles! Whether he’s been in a carry case, ultra-rare, or a store exclusive, Wedge figures have always been a real pain to acquire. So if there was any character better-suited for being a blind bag chase figure than Wedge, I don’t know who it is.

Unfortunately, I like the idea and concept art of the Wedge bird a lot more than the toy itself. The Wedge bird looks really cute on the package with its dot eyes, but in reality it has anxious-looking large eyes that look pretty stupid. In addition, there’s stray paint lines and some other deco miscues. Han is free of these due to being all one color, but the Wedge Bird doesn’t fare nearly as well.

Overall, I thought these figures are merely “okay”. For $3.99 plus tax at Toys R Us, I don’t see myself picking up any more Angry Birds Star Wars Mystery Bags, but I’m glad I at least got the two exclusive figures in one shot. These are okay little toys and you may have some fun with them, but unless you really want either of the exclusive figures, you’re probably better off sticking to the Stat Wars Angry Birds play sets that all come with a bunch of figures.

GRADE: C+

Angry Birds Star Wars Mystery Bag Figures Toy Review — 4 Comments

  1. The bags are only 2.47 at walmart, but, that still seems like way too much for something that isn’t guaranteed. I do not like mystery bags, they cost too much and you will end up with duplicates, triplicates, quadruplicates, and so on, if you are a completionist, I like the figures, I do not like anything else about them. Too much of a money grab by companies!

  2. all you have to do is feel around the bag. I got three mystery bags one:Luke(Pilot) and Han(carbonite) Two: Princess Leia (boush and Hoth) and Three had Rancor and normal Han.
