Earlier this week I took a look at my favorite of the Winter 2016 sets that’s being released in just two weeks–the LEGO Creator Park Animals set. But now, let’s move on and preview one of the LEGO City 2016 sets! And what better place to begin than with one of 2016’s starter sets, which turns out to once again give us a ton of fun and coolness for a super-low price–the LEGO Prison Island Starter Set 60127!
As tends to be the case with these City Starter Sets, the 60127 Prison Island Starter Set is positively packed with great Minifigures and little builds despite its low price-tag.
These Starter Sets are one of the best LEGO values out there, wave after wave, and this one is no exception. For $9.99, you get a 92 piece set that includes four mini figures, two little vehicles, an environment piece and plenty of accessories!
The four Minifigures included with the set are a female police officer, a policeman and two distinctive crook minifigs. These criminal Minifigures have a lot of personality evident in their prints, and are my favorite part of the set (although it’s always nice to see a policewoman Minifigure).
The brick-built Police Buggy that the policeman minifig has to patrol in is cute, but also kind of pathetic–it’s no wonder the crooks eluded him if he’s driving this little buggy after them!
Meanwhile, the criminals have a useful sack to store stolen money in, as well as a jet-black watercraft that can seat the both of them. For an itty-bitty build, this jet ski actually looks really slick in these colors!
But that’s not all! LEGO 60127 is pretty loaded with tiny accessories, as you also get a flashlight, walkie-talkie, ball and chain, backpack, two $100 bills (banknotes), a megaphone, handcuffs and a pickaxe (which the criminal minifigures look pretty terrifying wielding)! It really is a ton of fun for a ten-dollar set.
The Prison Island Starter Set LEGO City Winter 2016 set will be available online and at the LEGO Stores on December 1st, 2015. Just like every year, I expect the new sets that pop up in December to sell out quickly, so if you’re hoping to nab one as a holiday gift, make sure you get it early.
What are your early thoughts on the new Prison Island sub-theme, brick fans? Are you compelled by this year’s new twist on cops and criminals, or does this idea still feel like a rehash of the long line of police sets TLG has released?
I will be getting a couple. They are such good value for four minifigures and some builds.
Ball and chain?!? Where?!?
