The weekend after Christmas is now complete, and by now LEGO has to accept that they have made every dollar that they’re going to off of this year’s Christmas holiday. But fear not–LEGO has become quite adept at cashing in on each and every major holiday, and they’ll do so again with a new set due out in the next couple weeks! Give the gift of LEGO love to your sweetheart with the 2015 LEGO Valentine’s Day Dinner 40120 set!
LEGO has started to fall into a groove with LEGO Shop at Home/LEGO Store Seasonal Set exclusives, and that trend will apparently be continuing into winter 2015 (and probably beyond).
The LEGO Valentine’s Day Dinner 40120 seasonal set includes two minifigures (one male minifigure in a fancy suit, and one female minifigure in a floral purple dress), along with a mini restaurant diorama and some very cool accessories.
Not only does the set include two of the gourmet-style cupcakes that have been all the rage in recent years, but it also comes with a (cursed One Ring) engagement ring, two fancy glasses and a bottle of some sort of delightful beverage (which has a flower growing out of the top for some crazy reason).
Now, maybe I’m just biased since I was young enough to not have to shave regularly when I got engaged, but personally, I would never go to a fancy restaurant for a serious proposal with such an unshaven, scruffy-looking face as the male minifigure in this set. Maybe that’s the style with kids these days (although the guy in this set looks older than me), but I don’t like it.
The 40120 Valentine’s Day Dinner LEGO set is scheduled to be released in early January 2015 (maybe even as early as this week!), and should retail for around $9.99. I’ll post an update once the set actually turns up at the LEGO Stores and we learn the official price-point. This set should be exclusive to physical LEGO Stores and also the LEGO Shop at Home website–it should not appear at Target, Walmart, or any other retail outlet.
How do you feel about the small LEGO Valentine’s Day set, LEGO fans? Do you want more little scene sets like this for various holidays in 2015, or are simplistic sets like these a no-go for your collection?
I hope this set is in store this week with the 2015 sets. I’m planning a LEGO store trip on the first.
I think small sets like this are a good idea. Some I may want, some not, but sometimes they make good “little gifts” for people who are not really into Legos, but appreciate receiving a small item that reflects something they like or think is cute and doesn’t take a lot of “shelf space”. Although, in those cases, pre-assembly is usually suggested (or it may never get built) 🙂
I can easily see people using this either as a seasonal stand-alone, or as part of a home or restaurant build.
i like this smart set.
does someone know, how expensive it is?
I LOVE this set – and I actually really like the male minifigure and his beard. Little sets like this are great, I think. It’s fun to assemble little sets and add them to my city, or to assemble them as the holiday approaches.
Somebody at Lego said “Gee, what else can we do with this ring now?”
I think it’s a really cute set.
I think the “flower beverage” is just a flower that is in a vase on the table, or maybe it’s a love potion?
just a pity they haven’t made a gay version of it too
