I know it’s probably sacrilege to say this, but I think I enjoyed more moments of happiness and enjoyment from watching the six seasons of the Star Wars Clone Wars cartoon series than all of the Star Wars movies put together. So while I’m still rather skeptical after seeing the premiere of Star Wars Rebels, I definitely want to fall in love with the series and buy tons of merch for it. LEGO is hoping I’ll want to as well, as the LEGO Star Wars 2015 sets wave coming in January will include several more LEGO Rebels sets, including LEGO Star Wars Ezra’s Speeder Bike 75090!
My heart was basically shattered when Disney purchased Star Wars from Lucasfilm and almost immediately cancelled the Star Wars Clone Wars series, but I’ve had Rebels on the back of my mind ever since. And while I’m still not totally sold on the series, I like it enough that I’m ready to open my heart (and my wallet) to merch for Star Wars Rebels.
Unfortunately, I’m rather disappointed in the first LEGO Sabine figure. Her colors are all wrong–I don’t know if LEGO was trying to tone Sabine down for boys or what, but instead of having a pink/grey/purple color scheme, LEGO has stuck Sabine with a gross grey/brown torso and blue/orange hair. The Sabine LEGO minifigure also includes no Mandalorian helmet and no checkerboard shoulder pad.
Even if this turns out to be an accurate episode-specific rendition of Sabine, it’s still a big disappointment to those who have been waiting for her.
On the other hand, the 75090 LEGO Ezra’s Speeder Bike is anything but a disappointment! I haven’t seen the specific episode of Star Wars Rebels that this specific Speeder Bike is from yet (if there is one), but I love that the LEGO Ezra minifigure has this unique, eye-catching green-and-orange Speeder Bike to fly around on.
I have a hunch that Ezra Bridger himself will end up being a divisive character among fandom, but I can definitely see the character of Ezra flying around on this ridiculously colorful LEGO Speeder Bike.
Finally, we’ve got a standard LEGO Stormtrooper minifigure on a white Rebels-era LEGO Speeder Bike. This isn’t nearly as flashy as LEGO Ezra’s Speeder Bike, but then again, the Empire isn’t exactly about glitz and glamor. I have plenty of LEGO Speederbikes already, but this one is just different enough that I won’t mind adding it to the collection.
The LEGO 75090 Ezra’s Speeder Bike set should be officially released in January 2015, though there will almost certainly be early shipments hitting stores leading up to the holidays. If you want to hear more about the 2015 LEGO Star Wars sets, be sure to follow Bricks and Bloks on Facebook for updates, as I’ll be posting news and images for the next couple months as we away the release of the Winter 2015 LEGO Star Wars sets.
What do you think of this Speeder Bike of a different color, LEGO fans? Will a Michelangelo-colored Speeder Bike compel you to buy this LEGO Star Wars Rebels set, or is this set leaving you cold?
So my 5 year old son, 4 year old daughter and I watched the hour long premiere the other day and I couldn’t help thinking that they have totally ripped off The A Team. I googled it and it turns out the Rebels producers have used it as inspiration. I know my 5 yr old doesn’t see the links but apart from the annoying kid they are the A Team, the Ghost is the Van and Agent Kallus seems like Colonel Decker so far. And all they do is help good people for no reason!
That said, we are looking forward to the series. I am totally disappointed that they don’t have the pink mandalorian helmet but my son and 4 yr old daughter were less worried. Sabine is her favourite character so I don’t know why they wouldn’t give her a helmet and hair. And given that Rebels is really going after the younglings why didn’t they save 2 of the microfighters for 2015 for a couple of Rebels vehicles?
i like Sabine – it is a great minifigure!
Sabine mini figure is a major disappointment. I wish it was more screen accurate.
no helmet for Sabine is a major oversight, i guess i will have to get one from the customizers
