2015 LEGO Simpsons Minifigures Series 2 71009 Confirmed!

The absolute most controversial product that LEGO came out with in 2014–no question–was the LEGO The Simpsons Minifigures Series 71005. Some LEGO fans cried foul about a LEGO Minifigure series composed of licensed characters, while others decried that the Simpsons aren’t appropriate for LEGO. But despite the controversy, the LEGO Simpsons were a hit. And now, it’s finally confirmed that 71009 LEGO Simpsons Minifigures Series 2 is coming in 2015!

But as fate would have it, more and more sources corroborated that rumor, and it has turned out to be truth: LEGO Simpsons Minifigures Series 2 71009 is in fact coming in spring 2015!

LEGO Simpsons Dr. Hibbert Minifigure Head Prototype

Over the weekend, the first few photos surfaces of work-in-progress Simpsons LEGO Series 2 Minifigure prototypes! The two in-development pieces seen are a LEGO Dr. Hibbert head and a LEGO Groundskeeper Willie head. Both of these supporting characters have had mass market action figures previously released (believe it or not), but this will make their debut as part of the Simpsons LEGO series!

Since LEGO 71009 Simpsons Minifigures Series 2 will include sixteen minifigures, that leaves fourteen left to be determined. I think we can safely assume that a LEGO Sideshow Bob, Comic Book Guy, Professor Frink, Old Sea Captain and Bumblebee Guy will be included in the set, but would that still only cover seven on the sixteen characters. I’m curious to see if LEGO will produce Mr. Smithers, a character whose action figure was made as difficult to get as possible by Playmates Toys.

LEGO The Simpsons Dog Santa's Little Helper Minifigure 2015 Series 2Meanwhile, we also saw the first accessory from LEGO 71009, which some might consider a figure of its own: the Simpsons’ dog, LEGO Santa’s Little Helper! As an unarticulated dog, Santa’s Little Helper will almost certainly be packed in with another figure. Could there be a Daredevil Bart or Sunday Best Bart Simpson minifigure next year…? And what about a LEGO Snowball II, the Simpsons’ cat…? We’ll see!

  2. $48? That’s a steal! I don’t have the time/patience to feel through the mini-paks, so end up having to pay the premium for the people who do the work for me. 🙂

    What about Otto the busdriver? (Or will he be part of a bus or school set that will include a bunch of Lisa and Bart’s classmates and principal Skinner?)

    Then, of course, there is Moe, Lenny and Carl (unless they will be released with a bar scene set)?

    Flander’s kids?–again a next door neighbor house set comes to mind.

    And Disco Stu, Mayor Quimby (or maybe with a town square set?), Edna Krabappel, the Reverend, Selma and/or Patty…..just to name a few that spring to mind…..

    Wow–if they generate all the sets I am thinking of, probably will end up costing close to 4 figures over time!!

  4. I was so upset when Moe wasn’t a part of the first set, I’m excited that there will be more. Though boy do these things add up don’t they? Because there are so many mini-figs, it’d be more fun if they weren’t 4 bucks a pop. Especially when you don’t know what you’re getting unless you feel up the bags. So addictive.
