One of the things that I really missed in this year’s LEGO Ninjago 2014 sets lineup was an elemental dragon for the individual Ninjago ninjas to fly around on (no, the spectacular Nindroid MechDragon–awesome as it is–doesn’t really count). In the olden days the team had amazing dragons like the Ninjago Lightning Dragon and Ice Dragon, but I thought that those were behind us. But in 2015, everything old is new again! The Anacondrai are returning to wreak havoc, and an old friend will be taking up the identity of the Titanium Ninjas and flying into battle atop the LEGO Ninjago Titanium Dragon 70748!
I didn’t want to get me hopes up too much, but I think the new 70748 LEGO Ninjago Titanium Dragon looks great and will fit right in the with the classic Ninjago dragons. I love the Titanium’s white and steel color scheme and piercing cyan eyes, which make him one of the coolest LEGO Ninjago creatures released in years!
The last time Ninjago fans got a personal dragon was Lloyd’s LEGO Ninjago Golden Dragon at the end of 2012, so it’s been quite a wait for any member of the crew to get their own private dragon mount again! (Incidentally, the LEGO Golden Dragon is retiring at the end of 2014, so get it now if you want one. It’s fantastic.)
The 70748 LEGO Titanium Dragon set contains 360 pieces and will retail for $39.99. The Ninjago Titanium Dragon is expected to hit stores by January 2015, although past experience makes it pretty obvious to me that we’ll be seeing this set arrive in small quantities in some stores before the start of the new year. I’ll post an alert to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook Page once the LEGO Ninjago Titanium Dragon set starts arriving at retail.
Are you amped about the return of personal LEGO Ninjago Dragons, LEGO fans? Are you impressed enough to add the LEGO Titanium Dragon to your bestiary this winter, or will you be giving the Titanium Ninja’s steed a pass?
What is up with the pricing on the dragon sets? This one doesn’t even feature a molded head and it’s still overpriced.
Its barely a few bucks over price and personally I like this head a lot more, it differentiates itself from all the other dragons. Really regret not purchasing the other dragons though, woulda been a neat display.
I never much liked the Ninjago dragon sets until this year’s mech dragon. The way they’ve been doing brick-built wings doesn’t really look proper. This guy doesn’t look like he’s supposed to be a robot, but I guess we’ll have to wait for the cartoon to show if the wings are represented like that or not.
