This weekend is one of the most anticipated of the year for LEGO collectors, as the LEGO Brickcon 2013 event is taking place in Seattle, Washington. Not to leave their fans hanging without something new and immensely cool to talk about, LEGO has now released details and photos of their upcoming 2014 LEGO Modular Building, and it is as amazing–inside and out–as any modular building LEGO has done before! Coming in January 2014–LEGO Parisian Restaurant 10243!
UPDATE: The LEGO Parisian Restaurant 10243 is now available for order online, as well as from the official chain of LEGO Stores!
At first glance at the LEGO 10243 Parisian Restaurant modular building that was revealed at this weekend’s BrickCon, I let out an uncharacteristically apathetic “Meh”. I’m used to being completely blown away by LEGO’s major set announcements, and Parisian Restaurant just didn’t do that… at least, not at first glance.
At second glance, however, and after watching the LEGO Designer video that was published alongside the press release, I fell in love with the incredible LEGO 2014 Parisian Restaurant set. No, seriously–in love. I truly feel that LEGO has outdone themselves and their past LEGO modular building efforts with their work on next year’s LEGO Parisian Restaurant.
From the front, the LEGO 10243 Parisian Restaurant looks nice, but not exactly captivating. No, it’s when you dig deeper into this set and look at it from different angles that you realize every single centimeter of this LEGO set is covered in drop-dead gorgeous detail.
When you turn the Winter 2014 LEGO Parisian Restaurant set around, you’ll discover that the back of the restaurant is astonishingly almost as details (some would say even more detailed) than the front of the building! There’s a trash dumpster, a second floor to the restaurant with more tables, a little apartment with foldaway bed, plant life climbing up the back of the building, a wonderful staircase and more!
LEGO wastes nothing–nothing–with this design. The top portion of the building that gets removed first isn’t just a throwaway roof. No–instead, it’s got a little art studio inside with an Artist minifigure, easel and canvas! Could this be where Leonardo Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa? (Probably not.)
At the ground level there’s a beautifully depicted outdoor restaurant scene, complete with new printed bricks for the menu and the restaurant sign. This is the perfect location for something truly special to occur, such as…
A couple is having a fancy French dinner, and the boyfriend minifigure is about to propose the girlfriend minifigure! She says “YES”!!! How romantic!! (I do have to admit to being highly skeeved-out though by the waiter wielding a sword behind the boyfriend. Could he be the romantic rival for the girl’s affections?!?)
And did I mention the full kitchen, complete with cooking instruments, tiled floor, and so forth?! I can’t believe that amount of detail LEGO managed to cram into this LEGO 2014 set–this is absolutely out of this world.
The 10243 LEGO Parisian Restaurant building set included only five minifigure, but all of them are great ones. And with the copious amount of accessories included with this set, you won’t mind populating the Parisian Restaurant LEGO set with minifigures from other sets!
The five minifigures included with the set are a female artist minifigure, a waiter minifigure, a chef minifigure a boyfriend minifigure and a girlfriend minifigure. Every single one of the figures has appropriate and intricately designed accessories that make the figures really shine!
Looking at the new red Vespa included with this set and the one LEGO rat included, I can’t help but feel that someone on the LEGO design team has been watching Disney movies for inspiration! Is anyone else feeling compelled to army-build LEGO rats and mice to recreate Pixar’s not-quite masterpiece film, Ratatouille? Because I sure am!
There’s just so much going on here that I feel that I can’t explain it all in words and photos, so I highly recommend viewing the latest LEGO Designer video below:
I usually wait until the LEGO Modular Buildings show up on Amazon and buy them for a small discount plus no tax and free shipping, but I am going to be really hard-pressed not to rush out to the local LEGO Store and purchase the 10243 LEGO Parisian Restaurant right on January 1st, 2014. This set is that cool.
What do you think of the 2014 LEGO Modular Buildings addition, the 10243 LEGO Parisian Restaurant, LEGO fans? Is this just about the coolest LEGO building that you’ve ever seen, or are its sophisticated good looks not enough to earn your $159.99?
I must have it!
Hi there !
Just a small note about a tiny thing, not know by everyone: if the server is holding a sword, that’s because he’s opening a champagne bottle with it. It’s called, in french, “sabrer le champagne”. By hitting the top with the sword (after the blade had followed to bottle curve), it pops in the air, and the bottle is opened in a spectacular way.
That’s often done for the special occasions (which is one). My dad used to do this sometimes, I once received to top of the bottle on my head ^^ (I was very young).
That’s a stunning detail, among other stunning details.
Oh wow, thanks for that explanation! That’s fascinating, and it makes a lot more sense than the idea that the waiter is planning to assassinate the boyfriend minifigure! =D
The LEGO Parisian Restaurant looks attractive and fascinating. However, the set is disgraced to have a mouse behind the restaurant.
But, that’s Ratatouille !
Come on guys, it’s not a real mouse. To call a toy masterpiece a disgrace is retarded, where were you born and educated? I’m looking forward to having this in our collection
