Although LEGO never expected the LEGO Ninjago theme to be as long-running or successful as it’s turned out to be, Ninjago is the original theme that just won’t be stopped! Though Ninjago went on hiatus after the release of the January 2013 LEGO Ninjago sets, the theme has never been far from the minds of the kids and collectors who love it. And for the first time, today photos leaked out of several of the 2014 LEGO Ninjago sets! First up–the 70721 LEGO Ninjago Kai Fighter!

Of the first three 2014 Ninjago LEGO sets that photos have leaked of, the Kai Fighter Jet is by far the coolest and most exciting of the lineup. LEGO Ninjago 2014 looks to be very technologically-based, as we can tell from the storyline behind this upcoming LEGO Ninjago Kai Fighter 70721 set. Apparently, the Red Ninja (Kai) has used his Techno-blade accessory to turn an ordinary vehicle into this crazy, tricked-out red and gold fighter jet!

I am totally in love with the flaming designs on the wings of Kai’s Fighter–it makes the jet plane look reminiscent of the flame-adorned hot rod or motorcycle that every adolescent dreams of! The jet engines of the 2014 LEGO Ninjago Kai Fighter plane look very cool, and apparently the wings can be flipped backwards in order to activate something called “Speed Mode” (that I can only imagine is going to be super fun when we see it in the 2014 Ninjago cartoon series next year).

The Kai Fighter 70721 LEGO Ninjago set will feature two flick fire missiles on the jet itself, as well as a flickfire missile that can be fired from the General Cryptor minifigure’s laser rocket launcher. I’m never a fan of flick fire missiles, but these are great for the kids who like them.

The LEGO 70721 Kai Fighter set includes two minifigures: a new version of Kai (the Red Ninja) and a General Cryptor (the minifigure that leaked onto ebay earlier this week). Both minifigures should be available in multiple sets as part of the LEGO Ninjago 2014 winter wave of sets, so you can get them elsewhere if you don’t like the Kai Fighter–but really, this jet is so cool, how could you not like it?

The LEGO Ninjago Kai Fighter 70721 set consists of 196 pieces and should carry a price-point of $19.99-$24.99 when it’s released in late December 2013/early January 2014.
