Seeing as how we’re not likely to see the winter 2014 LEGO Marvel sets hit store shelves for at least another month yet, it stands to reason that we probably wouldn’t be seeing any LEGO Marvel Summer 2014 sets prototypes for a long time yet, right? Well… no. The biggest toy event of the year–the 2014 Toy Fair–is just one month away, at which we should see the entire summer LEGO 2014 sets lineup. But before Toy Fair 2014 comes around, we can already get our first glimpse at some preliminary prototypes of the upcoming X-Men LEGO Marvel Sentinel and Storm minifigures…
The big reveal from these images is obviously the first-ever LEGO Sentinel! With Sentinels being a major presence in this year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past movie, it was a total no-brainer for LEGO to product a LEGO X-Men Sentinel set to commemorate the film.
To be honest, though, I’m genuinely disappointed that LEGO has made the Sentinel as a brick-built set instead of just as a giant minifigure–the way the Sentinels are depicted in the LEGO Marvel Superheroes video game that came out in the fall. I know LEGO doesn’t typically make giant minifigures like the Sentinel in the LEGO Marvel video game, but I think I liked that design a lot more than the gangly, movie-inspired LEGO X-Men Sentinel set that is apparently in the works.
In addition to the Sentinel, the first photos have also surfaced of the LEGO Marvel Summer 2014 Storm minifigure and Magneto minifigure. Storm looks fantastic, and I love the little clip-on lightning bolts that the LEGO Storm minifigure is going to come with. Presumably, the purple costume Magneto is something from the X-Men Days of Future Past movie.
And yes, that is a star-field in the background of the next page of the retailer catalog that this image is taken from. LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy is confirmed for LEGO Summer/Fall 2014 for at least one set.
What do you think of these early LEGO Marvel Summer 2014 X-Men sets, LEGO fans? Are you impressed with the preliminary images of the Sentinel LEGO and friends, or are you hoping these items look somewhat better when we see the finished prototypes later this year?
Actually, that Magneto is apparently based on his stint as the headmaster of Xavier’s school for gifted youngsters. Scroll to #5

Kinda looks like the wing tip of a plane or something in the Storm/Magneto one.
Please god be the Blackbird.
