With all the LEGO leaks springing lately, LEGO is lucky it isn’t a ship–because it would be sinking! Once again, one of the upcoming LEGO Winter 2014 sets has appeared, and it’s another DC LEGO Super Heroes set! While none of the characters in this LEGO Batman set are “new” exactly, this is the sort of army-builder set many collectors have been waiting for. Coming in 2014–LEGO Batman The Penguin Face Off 76010!
UPDATE 12/6/2013: Now that hi-res photos of the 76010 LEGO The Penguin Face-Off set are available, I’ve added the new images to this post and updated my impressions of the set.
First and foremost, I’m excited about 76010 LEGO Batman The Penguin Face Off because it finally, finally gives us a cheapish source of Penguin Minions minifigures to army-build!
I fell in love with the Penguin’s robot penguin LEGO minifigures when playing the LEGO Batman video game, and I’ve always wanted to army-build them This set should retail for $12.99-$14.99, which is the best price-point ever for getting two Penguin Minion minifigures. The new torso print for the LEGO The Penguin minifigure also makes The Penguin look richer and more “high-class” than he ever has before. Love it!
The rest of the items included in the set will be a new Scuba Batman minifigure, a little Batboat for Batman to ride on, and a LEGO Penguin Rubber Ducky Boat. I always enjoy new Batman variants in these sets, so that’s a big plus, but the LEGO Scuba/Batboat build is pretty small and sad. More of an accessory for Batman to hold onto than a true vehicle.
While I hate the classic “Batman Returns” movie with a passion, I am blown away that LEGO is actually releasing the Penguin’s Rubber Ducky Boat in LEGO vehicle form! Seriously, this is a brilliant idea and is going to be a true joy to build and display. I am definitely a bit saddened that LEGO didn’t give us wheels to add onto the LEGO Rubber Ducky boat, though–I guess we’ll have to add those ourselves! Anyone know if pink wheels exist in LEGO form?
I’ll post an update with additional, better-quality photos of the LEGO Batman 76010 set and all the rest of the LEGO Super Heroes 2014 sets as more images of the sets are released. And you can ‘Like’ Bricks and Bloks on Facebook to have LEGO news, photos and updates sent straight to your Newsfeed!
Now that you’ve seen high-quality image of the set, are you in for one of the more off-beat LEGO Batman sets ever, or do you have no use for outrageously fun killer robot LEGO penguins?
I like the duck boat. And the mini penguins are cool. And I thought I had enough Batman mini figs.
I can’t tell from the pic, but if the Duck Boat doesn’t come with wheels, I’ll certainly add some on.
I’m sorry but I’m in for ALL the LEGO Batman sets past present and future. (Past ones are getting to be expensive)
Where is the set coming out? I have not seen it in the United States Lego.com shop online or in stores.
