While I was hanging out at the LEGO Store yesterday and taking photographs of all of the various The LEGO Movie sets, I wasn’t expecting to see anything else I hadn’t seen before. After all, the official release date for the majority of the LEGO 2014 sets isn’t until this Wednesday–1/1/2014–so there shouldn’t be anything else fresh out just yet. Of course, this is all just a very long lead-in to me asserting that I was incorrect, and a set appeared before me for the very first time yesterday: the 2014 LEGO Ninjago Destructoid 70726 has now been released!
I’m still really jazzed about the Ninjago theme returning this year, so I was half-ready to pick up the set and carry it up to the register when I looked on the bottom of the box and discovered that the price for the set was an absurd $34.99. $35 plus tax for a non-licensed LEGO set containing 253 pieces?! Nope–not for me!
Sorry, LEGO–14 cents per piece for a Ninjago set like this with no true new minifigures characters included does not make me smile. The Nindroid Zane in the NinjaCopter set is more interesting, and that set is a far better value, in my opinion.
Along with the regular Zane minifigure, the set also includes repacked figures of General Cryptor and a Nindroid. Neither one of these is particularly compelling, and paired with a vehicle that’s not the most alluring to begin with, there’s no way LEGO was getting 35 bucks out of me for this set (as much as I love Ninjago).
The 70726 LEGO Destructoid Ninjago set is now available at the LEGO Store, and should also be available as an exclusive from another retailer soon (though it’s still unconfirmed what store has picked up the Destructoid). Now that you know that the last of the known 2014 Ninjago LEGO sets is out there–and the surprisingly high price that it carries–will you be picking this set up, Ninjago fans?
No way! I went out and picked up the Thunder Raider today and it’s great though.
