We thought something funny was going on when Amazon put every LEGO Star Wars 2013 set up for order the week before Christmas except for two, and now our suspicions have been confirmed: the LEGO Star Wars Umbaran MHC (Mobile Heavy Cannon) 75013 and BARC Speeder with Sidecar 75012 are both now confirmed as retailer exclusives!
While I was at my local LEGO Store today, the store had finally gotten in their initial allotment of both the Umbaran MHC and BARC Speeder with Sidecar, and as I was suspected, both sets are tagged with the “Hard-to-Find” status that retailer exclusives are marked with at the LEGO Store. It’s still unknown at this time which major retailers (Wal-Mart, Target, and Toys R Us) will have one of the sets as a shared exclusive with the LEGO Store.
The BARC Speeder with Sidecar 75012 is one of the most boring LEGO Star Wars sets released in a long time, as the vehicle component of the set (the BARC Speeder with Sidecar) is obscure and doofy-looking, while all three of the minifigures included in the sets are characters that have been released multiple times before. On the bright side, however, the Obi-Wan Kenobi figure is an all-new minifigure depicting Obi-Wan from late in the Clone Wars, whereas this is the first Phase III version minifigure of Captain Rex. The 226-piece BARC Speeder with Sidecar has a retail price of $24.99.
Meanwhile, the LEGO Star Wars 2013 Umbaran MHC 75013 is a totally different story, as the set is super-cool and completely unique. Since the early 2013 LEGO Star Wars sets are mostly centered around the Umbara arc of the Clone Wars cartoon, it’s lucky we actually got an Umbaran vehicle with some Umbaran minifigures to bolster the Separatist forces.
Along with two Umbaran minifigures, you also get an orange 212th Clone Trooper minifigure and the first-ever older Ahsoka Tano minifigure! The Umbaran Mobile Heavy Cannon 75013 has a retail price of just $49.99, a great price for a licensed set with 493 pieces.
